This show was inspired by a comment made by my friend Mike Carland. He recently lost his uncle and attended our Spiritual Center's Berievement Support group. Bereavement support compassionately reaches out to those who are moving through the grieving process due to the loss of a loved one whether in the recent or distant past. It meets monthly and is open to all regardless of denomination. He found the experience intimate, meaningful and helpful.
I've invited the individuals who offer bereavement counseling and who manage the Bereavement Support Group to talk about the process for dealing with grief.
If you, or anyone you know, is dealing with grief - whether person or pet - you may want to listen to this show.

The directors of this amazing documentary, Steve and Whitney Boe, will be my guests to talk about their journey in the making of this film and the message contained within it. Accompanying them will be Steve's mother, Reverend Tricia Klink, who appears in the film as well.
"Every human being has aksed the questiosn: Who am I?" "What is my purpose?" "Why am I here" The answers are in the myths that have been passed from generation to generation within civilizations all over the world. Myths are the resevoir of human wisdom - the stories of life, and we are writing our own mythology by the way we live our lives each day. Our stories will be the writing on the cave walls of the future, telling our descendents who we were and what we did in the world. It won't matter how we died, it will only matter how we lived;

Betty is a woman I had the pleasure of working with at UCLA for over 15 years. Betty is a survivor of many life challenges. Her husband died of a heart attack leaving her with three young children to raise on her own. She survived breast cancer in the 1970's LONG before there were the advances that are available for treating breast cancer today. She went through a divorce from her second husband when she was in her 60's. Yet, Betty has always been upbeat and fun to be around. Now in her 80's, Betty Boop spends her time "clowning" professionally for circuses, events and parties. And, may I add, she has a bright lime green kitchen and a Betty Boop collection that must be worth a fortune. You'll be reminded that living a full, fun life is contingent upon being yourself,
looking for the best in all situations, and having fun!

Michelle Gilstrap was the scheduled guest for the evening, but she was unable to join us until the last 15 minutes of the show. None the less, Michelle is another fellow Toastmaster I admire. She has dealt with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) - a chronic pain condition that can affect any area of the body, but often affects an arm or a leg.
In her case it happened after a bi-lateral knee surgery following a fall. This put her in a wheel chair for 10 years. It took her a long time to overcome and many years of water and physical therapy and the Dorsal Column Stimulator to get her life back. She is also a cancer survivor. During her brief 15 minutes on the show is inspiring.
During the second segment of the show Linnaea shares tips for dealing with nervousness associated with public speaking.
During the third segment Linnaea's PC tech - Circe Denyer - came on the show to chat a bit about protecting yourself from identity theft - espcecially if you own a WordPress site.
So, the show is aptly called "Potpourii" because it was a patchwork of topics until we were able to locate Michelle.
But it is a worthwhile listen!

Fielding West is an award-winning comedy magician, actor, game show host, TV personality, motion picture technical director, writer and is now the host of and performer in “Ovation,” his zany approach to magic bringing pure fun and raucous laughter to the show’s audiences.
As a child, Fielding was introduced to magic by his grandfather, who was an amateur magician. Fielding put himself through college by performing as a Rock ‘n’ Roll drummer and doing magic shows for children. While attending graduate school in Tallahassee, Florida, he met an unknown-at-the-time comedy magician named Steve Martin.“When I saw him perform, I knew that I wanted to be in show business the rest of my life,” Fielding notes.
Much of Fielding's succcess is due to his humorous and good-natured audience involvement. He is a seasoned pro who adapts his act to to any audience. I have the priviledge of interviewing this talented individual on my radio show because we were introduced to one another through a mutual acquaintance - Tom Kirby. Tom felt he should connect us because Fielding has been working with children with hearing and speech deficiencies.
On the show he shared with us his personal challenges (which he said he hadn't been so open about previously) and the importance of the first 60 seconds when interacting with any audience - whether it be one-one-one - or a group of 1,000. Yes, listeners, this show is focused primarily on TIPS for connection with others. Fielding made it very clear - communication skills are the MOSt important skills you can possess. I agree!

Rev. Dana St.Claire was trained to teach meditation in her early 20’s and has been teaching people to meditate for over 35 years. She considers herself a ‘Purveyor of Meditation." Her husband, Rev. Scott Larson is her equal in the knowledge and practice of Meditation. This show ends with a 7 minute meditation track.
On this show Rev. Dana, along with her husband, Reverend Scott Larson, will share tools, insight and guidance to live a centered, sane, more joyful and fulfilling Life.
I've personally attended a few frequented Reverend Dana's workshops until they relocated to Hawaii. I benefitted tremendously from Dana's infamous "OMMMM" and her singing bowls. Perhaps she'll give us a sample of both for us on the show.
I love two of Dana's favorite words of wisdom, which speak eloquently to the type of loving person she is:
"If there is one totally worthwhile thing I’ve learned ~ it pays to choose to be amused, rather than annoyed." (which I believe are her own words.)
and from the Dalai Lama “My religion is kindness.”

As a three-time breast cancer and brain surgery survivor, Pattie Meyers recognizes that each day spent on this earth is a gift and, therefore, wants to make a difference in the lives of others. One of the ways she does so is as a professional reflexologist treating back, neck and sciatic pain naturally and helping the body to heal naturally.
Pattie is a highly skilled, certified practitioner of reflexology. She values the opportunity to leave her clients feeling transformed and invigorated. Pattie works with people of all ages and backgrounds to reduce stress, enhance athletic performance, maintain wellness or alleviate chronic pain. In addition to her hands-on work, in each session Pattie shares valuable insights on the specific benefits of the technique and on how we can take control of our lives regardless of age or history.
As a result of her own health challenges and experiences, Pattie is especially passionate about health care and women’s issues. She strives to educate her clients about the importance of relaxation, good sleep, healthy eating, exercising and learning how to be in tune to one’s body. Knowing that reflexology can make a difference in one’s total well-being, Pattie volunteers selflessly in the community, performing reflexology for women at an abuse shelter, and for chemotherapy patients and hospice patients, allowing them to relax beneath a tender touch. Pattie also gives educational talks at a variety of forums to help others learn the importance of taking care of oneself.
People who know Pattie state that her battle with cancer on three separate occasions has made her stronger and has motivated her to share her life story with others in order to give them hope. Her struggles after brain surgery changed her life course, limiting her such that she could no longer function as before. Yet, Pattie refuses to allow limitations to define her. Instead, she takes these adversities and newfound skills into the community to help others and lives each day with the intention of making a difference

Like most compulsive controllers, Danny Miller was always driven to succeed. He graduated from UCLA with honors in business administration and finished in the top 5 percent of his class at the UCLA School of Law.
While still in his 20s, he became a popular real estate instructor in the UCLA extension program and a few years later published a critically acclaimed, best-selling professional book, How to Invest in Real Estate Syndicates. He also founded the National Institute of Real Estate Education, which offered state-licensed seminars to thousands of real estate professionals.
Financial success came early as well. Celebrities and wealthy people entrusted him with large sums to invest on their behalf. By his mid-30s he could afford to live in the exclusive Old Bel Air section of Los Angeles, only a few doors away from Sylvester Stallone and just up the street from where Elvis Presley had once lived.
But for all his achievements and success, Danny had no sense of inner peace and serenity. How could he? He was imprisoned by his fears, anger and anxieties and thus not open to the wonders all around him.
It took a long series of personal setbacks, but at last Danny began a new life journey based on letting go of control. He tried to go with the ups and downs and twists and turns of life, instead of resisting them and trying to control people and events.
He learned effective tools and techniques for losing control in important areas such as family, parenting, love and romance, the creative arts, sports, and the workplace. He became an accomplished fine artist, a published poet, a champion tournament tennis player, a happily married man, and much wiser parent--all while cutting his work time by more than half.
Thus, through letting go of control, Danny found a different and more profound kind of success--an internal, core sense of well-being. He now counsels others and writes and speaks about the remarkable benefits of letting go of control. See his artwork, poetry and book at: http://www.losingcontrolfindingserenity.com

Sue Paoletti achieved a lifelong goal of putting on a One Woman Show called “What Are You Nuts?” in May 2007 to celebrate her 60th birthday. With no prior acting experience, she booked a theatre, found a director, wrote and performed her show three times. The show is about surviving her mother’s bipolar illness, her sister’s suicide and her own depression – and it is funny!
A review in the Tolucan News said:
“I liked that your story was so personal and one of growth about someone who was faced with challenges and became a substantial, talented human being. Circumstances like yours, as a child going to a foster home, and losing parents is a trauma. Your healing and evolvement were great to know that we all have that ability to succeed in spite of these difficulties and traumas."
Sue is writing a memoir based on her show. When the book is published, she plans to become a speaker about surviving her and her family’s depression and mental illness.

Karen Hudson is a twenty-five-year veteran of the Hollywood Film and Television Industry where she worked as a Costumer. Karen's claim to fame is that her name appears on the pilot and every episode of Hill Street Blues. She has developed many on-screen characters and considers herself to be a Social-Psychologist. In this show Karen shares her story:
“It’s a long way from a one room school on the Kansas prairie with outhouses and a wood stove to a Television credit on “Hill Street Blues”. I believe I moved forward to success because I listened to my instinct, worked hard, conducted business with integrity and a projected a good attitude. The creator of the successful Read My Lips Tips for Success program debuts her radio show by sharing her story.
“I am deeply and intimately familiar with adversity. A fever of 104 degrees destroyed most of my hearing when I was four years old. I grew up with an alcoholic mother and a depressed father and despite these setbacks, I have transcended a life where I used to run into a bathroom at public gatherings and cry because my low self esteem crippled me to a point that my breathing would be arrested. I am now a sought after leader, speaker, and teacher and I live my life in a joyful, creative way, surrounded by friends and associates. Through my own story and experiences, I want to make a difference in the lives of others.”
If you feel that you're never going to get where you want to go, listen to this show and hear inspiring stories of how other people overcame their challenges and succeeded, and what you can do to achieve your personal and professional success.
