November 15 Show--The Spirit of Christmas

At Christmastime, it's hard not to get caught up in the shopping, the decorating, and the party planning--and it's easy to lose sight of the true meaning of the season. But sometimes we're touched by rare moments of grace when we're able to take a step back and understand what Christmas really means.

Bestselling author Debbie Macomber says in the foreword for The Spirit of Christmas, "...Christmas isn't just a time to give and receive gifts. It's a season of love and appreciation for the gifts God has already given us."

On the November 15 Cec and Me show, Cec and Twila will chat about the Spirit of Christmas. We'll share personal stories and stories of others who've been impacted by the Spirit of Christmas.

Do you have a story to share?

Have you seen God work?

Has your heart been changed by the Spirit of Christmas?

We'd love to hear from you! Call 877-864-4869 on Tuesday night, 7 CT/8 ET.

November 8 Show--Cec and Me with Lisa Copen of Rest Ministries

Nearly 1 in 2 people in the United States live with a chronic condition, so if it's not you, it's someone you care about.

Cec and Twila are delighted to have the delightful Lisa Copen, founder of Rest Ministries, as their special guest on the November 8th Cec and Me show. Join us at 7 pm CT/8 ET and learn how you can better cope with your condition or how you can help someone who suffers with chronic pain.

We want to hear from you.

Call 877-864-4869 with your comments or questions.

Lisa Copen, founder of Rest Ministries, lives with a chronic condition. She knows the pain. She experiences the realities of living with her condition. And she offers hope, help, and resources for others who live with chronic conditions.

Lisa says, Every day is painful. Despite various medications, accompanied by a multitude of side effects, I have never experienced remission or even slight relief. My body seems to have aged 50 years in the last five. Each day is a challenge. Yet, I do not complain of this, for I have found joy beyond anything I could have ever discovered without my illness. I have learned an appreciation for life, an intensified joy of family and loved ones, a compassion for those who are hurting, and the ability to offer sincere understanding to those who feel devastated.

More about Lisa:

In 1996, I began writing a newsletter, ...And He Will Give You Rest, and people quickly responded. In 1998, Rest Ministries, Inc. became a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and began to reach out not only to individuals, but churches, providing tools, education and resources, so that they can more effectively meet the needs of the chronically ill in their church and community. (http://www.restministries.org). In 2004 we began HopeKeepers Magazine and in 2008 Hope Endures Radio Podcast.

Lisa Copen is the founder of Rest Ministries, the largest Christian organization that specifically serves the chronically ill. She has authored nine books, including resources for over 300 HopeKeepers groups, a small group program of Rest Ministries. Through various resources, including National Invisible Chronic Illness Awareness Week, which she started in 2002, she seeks to encourage churches to increase an outreach to the chronically ill--nearly 1 in 2 people in the U.S. Lisa's works have been published in a variety of periodicals and books and she has been a guest of radio programs Decision Today, Family Life, and Joni and Friends. She is a sought-after speaker who brings joy and humor, as well as hope, to those who are suffering or live with chronic illness. She resides in San Diego with her husband and 7-year-old son, and has lived with degenerative rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia since 1993.

About Cec and Twila

Cecil Murphey
Award-winning author and international speaker Cecil (Cec) Murphey has written or co-written more than one hundred books, including the New York Times' bestseller 90 Minutes in Heaven (with Don Piper) and Gifted Hands: The Ben Carson Story (with Dr. Ben Carson). His books have sold millions of copies, have been translated into more than 40 languages, and have brought hope and encouragement to countless people around the world.

His newest releases are Hope and Comfort for Every Season (#119) and When a Man You Love Was Abused: A Woman's Guide to Helping Him Overcome Childhood Sexual Molestation. At this time he has five books scheduled for release in 2011.

Many words have been used to describe Cecil Murphey. Among them are mentor, encourager, life-changer, giver, caring, compassionate, transparent, and friend. Cec says, "When I write, I want to reach out and hug my readers." He is known for his physical, spiritual, and emotional hugs as well.

Cec stays busy as a professional writer and travels extensively to speak on many topics such as male sexual abuse, recovery, spiritual growth, prayer, caregiving, significant living, and writing.

Prior to launching his career as a full-time writer and speaker, Cec served as pastor of Riverdale Presbyterian Church in Metro Atlanta, as a volunteer hospital chaplain for ten years, and was a missionary in Kenya for six.

Twila Belk
To some she's known as Twila Belk, but to others she's known as the Gotta Tell Somebody Gal. She loves to talk, especially about her Lord. Whether she's speaking, writing, or teaching, her desire is to offer hope and encouragement for people to get their eyes fixed on Almighty God.

Twila is a Christian communicator. She loves to laugh and to encourage laughter. But even more than that, she loves to help people discover who God is and how big God is and to prove that He can be trusted. She has lots and lots of proof of God's faithfulness and goodness, and she's just gotta tell somebody!

The Gotta Tell Somebody Gal's mission is to do whatever she can to make God famous. That includes being a champion and promoter for others who have a message of hope and encouragement, one that points people to God. She's a cheerleader and coach for other writers and speakers, and she's the director of two writers conferences.

Twila is delighted to have the opportunity of working with bestselling author Cecil Murphey as his manager, assistant, scheduler, promoter, marketing director, publicist, events coordinator, and biggest fan. She claims her true title should be Executive Director of the Cecil Murphey Empire, but Cec usually just calls her Mother. She tries hard to keep him in line and to make him look good.

Twila's background includes a broad variety of positions-from being a journeyman machinist and spec writer to owning a Christian bookstore and medical transcribing for a group of neurosurgeons. She can talk lathes and mills with you, or Bibles and books, or she can diagnose your need for brain surgery-the full spectrum!
