The preschool years (ages 1-6) can be overwhelming and intense; parents may feel like they're the only ones dealing with all the chaos. Nothing could be further from the truth. Misbehavior is a constant reality when living with preschoolers; it's how they learn.
After many trips to timeout, most parents wonder if there's another way. Getting to the Heart of the Matter is the perfect place to ask those questions. We will talk about all things related to parenting toddlers and preschoolers from discipline and potty training to siblings, food and sleep and so much more. In fact each week will be totally different because you decide what you want to know by the questions you ask!
Sharon Silver is a mom, an educator, and a powerful speaker. Her sense of humor and teaching style make her easy to listen to and creates a trustworthy environment for learning.
Over the last 18 years of teaching parenting Sharon has been exposed to many, many families and their stories, there's very little she hasn't seen or heard. She freely admits to having been a yeller as she and her husband of 31 years raised their two sons, tall who is 30 and taller who's 27. Her career as a parent educator was born out of her search for other ways to parent her sons without yelling, power struggles or relying solely on timeouts.
With an education in Parenting and Early Childhood Development, four certifications as a Parent Educator her goal has always been to let parents know there's no such thing as perfection in parenting. She is also trained in the work of Rudolf Dreikurs, the Cline/Fay Institute, as well as considerable study of the work of Ginott, Faber/Mazlish, Brazelton, and Ames/Ilg which has allowed her to
create programs that help parents focus on what else can be done instead of going straight to punishment. Her business and website ProActive ParentingTM is the result of that mission.
Proactive Parenting offers audio seminars by topic that parents can download to their MP3 players and listen when they have time, and replay as many times as they like! She does live seminars for parents at night and during the day through corporate work/life balance programs.
Sharon's commitment to children and families resulted in her appearance on an episode of the Oprah Winfrey show called "Hitting Spanking, Smacking: Should it happen to your child?" She hosts her own online TV show called Ask Me on MomTV.com and has hosts a new radio show called Getting to the Heart of the Matter on Her Reach Radio.
