Phillip and Amy Parham, Stars of NBC's "Biggest Loser: Families"
and Autism Awareness Activists, Bring Their "Autism Resources Forum " and
"Family Fitness Tour" to Tyler, Texas
(Tyler, Texas, January 12, 2012) LearningRx is pleased to introduce inspirational and motivational fitness and wellness speakers and Autism Awareness advocates, Phil and Amy Parham. The Parhams joined NBC's "Biggest Loser: Families" in 2008. As a couple, they lost a combined total of 256 pounds-the highest percentage of total weight loss for a married couple in the history of the show.
According to Phil and Amy, pain over their son's struggle with Autism helped make them fat as they turned to food to manage their emotions. Life changed dramatically, however, after competing on season six of "The Biggest Loser." The couple not only lost a combined total of 256 pounds, they were contacted by the director of a LearningRx brain training Center in their city. She told them, "I saw your story on TV. I know your son has Autism, and I can help."The couple was skeptical at first, but now agree that, for their Autistic son, brain training has been life changing.
Today the reality show celebrities are passionate about helping people get fit, and are conducting 90-Day Fitness Challenges nationwide. They are also passionate about helping other families impacted by Autism. The reality TV stars are sharing their personal story with Autism at Community Autism Resources Forum in dozens of cities this year.
The Autism Resources Forum was created to give attendees the opportunity to learn more about local and national resources available to individuals and families impacted by Autism. Participating in the forum will be several care providers and support groups that specialize in helping Autistic children and adults.
Autism is the fastest-growing developmental disability in America, with 1 in 110 children (and 1 in 70 boys) being impacted by the disorder. Because Autism is a "spectrum" disorder-with symptoms ranging from very mild to severe-it can impact individuals, and their families, very differently. The most significant shared symptom is difficulty with social interaction, including eye contact, conversation, even being able to empathize with someone else or see things from their perspective.
The Community Autism Resources Forum is open to the public, and individuals with Autism, family members, educators and professionals who serve the Autism community are invited to attend the forum to become better acquainted with local resources and help.
As parents of an autistic child, the Parhams committed to climb and overcome a mountain of adversity to achieve great personal victory in the battle for the health of their family. When the Parhams attained such a huge lifetime achievement on NBC's "Biggest Loser: Families" it inspired them to give back to individuals fighting for their wellness too. As a result, they created philandamyfitness.com, a website promoting healthy living. They have since established and issued the "90 Day Fitness Challenge" to churches, organizations, businesses and community groups throughout the United States.
