Military Mom Talk Radio welcomes Michael Russer of Live Outrageously, Author Candace George Thompson, and Author Jack Woodville London

By Sandra Beck, Robin Boyd

Michael J. Russer is an author, coach and speaker for the Live Outrageously movement. He is going to help military families and their friends navigate through change, transition and adjusting to a new normal. With 40 years of corporate, entrepreneurial and life skills experience, he can shed new light onto one of the most common aspects of military life: change.

The daughter of a 30-year career Air Force Officer whose first mission was D-Day as a B-24 Navigator, author Candace George Thompson writes of the life adventures of her parents in Rex and Bettie, Still Having Fun: A Portrait of a Military Marriage, 1941-2007.  The George's marriage not only survived World War 2, it survived the death of a child, a murder, absences that last from three to fourteen months, a family suicide, frequent uprooting, and health crises. Their religion and faith are a source of strength that guides their lives.

In their later years, Rex becomes Bettie's sole caretaker as Alzheimer's disease begins destroying her mind. When concerned friends and family ask how he is holding up, Rex's refrain is, "We're still having fun."

Jack Woodville London is an internationally acclaimed author, World War II historian and trial-attorney in Austin, Texas.  He is a graduate of the University of Texas Law School and a former captain in the US Army Quartermaster Corps.  Jack's foundation began when he was elected managing editor of the University of Texas International Law Journal in 1970.  Since then he has authored a long list of technical articles and papers on various legal topics, and has spoken at numerous legal programs throughout the United States as well as internationally.  In 2003, Jack put aside legal writing to enroll in the prestigious writing school of St. Céré, France where he graduated from among other esteemed writers.

London has spent much of his life exploring a deep interest in World War II and its effects on the home front-particularly small towns.  His love for writing and history united to produce his French Letters series of novels which have been internationally praised for their meticulous historical research and ability to capture the language, attitudes, and moral culture of their setting in prose described by reviewers as ‘beautiful, but not pretentious.'

Jack's passion for writing resonates in all of his literary works, earning them the national acclaim they have received.  Most recently, Jack's French Letters series received honorable mention at the 2011 London Book Festival and The Military Writers Society of America awarded him the prestigious honor of 2011-2012 Author of the Year for Engaged in War, the second installment in the trilogy.
