I AM MOM ENOUGH! 5/18/12

As much as I didn't want to contribute to a media giant's pocketbook, I found it necessary to purchase the latest addition of a magazine so I could understand, opine, and discuss the latest controversial magazine cover.  You probably know the one I am talking about.... the one with the woman on the cover breast-feeding the toddler. The cover that is causing so much discussion and debate.  The one that is supposedly igniting the incendiary kindling of the parenting divides.

Join Mom of Many Hats Radio today as three moms and women share roundtable discussion about the controversial Time Magazine Article and what it means to be "Good Enough".  Join the conversation live, tweet along, or join in of facebood at http://www.facebook.com/pages/AZ-Mom-of-Many-Hats/100912886661732 .

Walking Through Tragedy - An Interview with Barry Adkins, Author of Kevin's Last Walk 5/1/12

Once we have children, the definition of who we are changes.  Our world and existence revolve around someone else in a way that we could never have imagined.  So what what do we do when our world suddenly changes and what defined us is gone?

Barry Adkins, author of Kevin's Last Walk joins Mom of Many Hats Radio to share what he did when his world suddenly changed - when he lost his 18 year old son to alcohol poisoning. In the midst of tragedy, Barry needed to find some purpose to what had happened. He shares his story from the "knock on the door" with the words no parent wants to hear, a 1400 mile walk from Arizona to Montana, to the seemingly impossible "something very good" in the loss of his son.

Barry Adkins has shared his story with over 50,000 students and parents.  Through his loss, he has found a "good" in sharing in not only about the dangers of alcohol poisoning, but in the ability to carry on when life changes so drastically.  He motivates and inspires those who hear his story to appreciate each breath they are given.

Balance and Juggle - Tips for Keeping it All Together! 4/6/12

Do you sometimes feel like you are about to drop your hats?  Does the constant need to switch from role to role have you stressed out?

Join Mom of Many Hats Radio as THE Mom of Many Hats shares her tips to balance and juggle all of her hats that just may help you balance and juggle yours too!

We'll talk about these strategies and mindsets that the Mom of Many Hats uses.

  • Embrace that you DO have the ability to juggle, multi-task and balance the things that you NEED to balance.  That ability is PRICELESS!
  • Never focus on perfect results, instead, give perfect effort.
  • Prioritize.
  • Step back, take a look at what you do, and give yourself a big pat on the back. You work very hard!
  • Don't sweat the small stuff and pray about the big stuff.
  • Let things go - don't hold grudges.
  • Accept that your hats are going to lean, sit crooked, and even fall off sometimes.  That's OK. The point is to pick them up and put then back on your head.
  • Don't be concerned about how others think your hats look.  Wear them proudly and confidently.

How do you balance and juggle your hats? Join in on the conversation with comments or questions!

Fit in 2012! Dana Neve on Health and Beauty Friday!

Fit in 2012!

With the new year, many people make fitness goals.  Did you?

Fitness goals are often so hard to keep.  When it comes to our fitness, it is an area that we often give up on.  It is an area that so full of choices, and we have to make the right ones, from our food, to our lifestyle, to our activity.  It gets tough sometimes, because we can’t cut out food, lifestyle, or activities.  None of them are out of sight and out of mind.  We just have to choose the healthy way. With so many options in front of us, how do we make the right choices? How do we choose to have a healthy meal instead of fast food? How do we decide to move our bodies instead of sitting on the couch?

Fitness Coach Dana Neve joins us today to talk about that.  She’ll share her path to fitness, tips on how we can stay fit, and advice for those who are starting from square one with fitness.

Dana is a New Orleans native living in the Twin Cities for the past eighteen years with her husband and two teenage daughters.  She is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, runner, fitness coach, motivator, speaker, fitness writer and avid spectator of her kids’ sports. Fitness has always been a part of her life, but it wasn’t until 2000 that she became passionate about it.  After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia and having a negative reaction to the medication prescribed, she decided to control the symptoms with exercise and proper nutrition.  The results were life changing and it has become her mission to help others lead longer, healthier and more fulfilling lives through fitness and nutrition.  She coaches people around the country developing nutrition plans and recommending workout programs for her clients, while motivating and supporting them along the way.

She is dedicated to helping people reach their health and fitness goals and would love to help you too. Find her on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/DanaNeve, follow her on Twitter http://tinyurl.com/3bsstuy and visit her website www.danafit4life.com

The new year is a fresh start and a chance to take a fresh look at things in our lives.  One of the areas we should look at is our finances.  As the new calendar year starts, making assessments of financial heath and identifying changes can help start the year off on a good path.  Looking at household budgets, large purchases or savings goals, and retirement plans is a wise and responsible financial task that we should not shy away from.

But looking at and assessing finances can be a difficult and daunting task.  We may see things we don’t want to see.  We may need to make changes that we don’t want to make.  Even if our financial health looks good, it is always prudent to revisit our financial plans and goals. Where ever the health of our finances stand, we should not be afraid to dig in, and not be afraid to ask the opinion of a financial professional.

Jerry R. Citarella of Infinity Wealth Management, and author of The Truth Helps Series, joins Mom of Many Hats Radio to discuss how we can navigate our New Years Financial resolutions.  Jerry has 20 years experience in the financial services industry and has been a trainer and speaker on various fianancial topics. From what types of goals to set, to managing budgets and purchases, to where to start when your finances seem overwhelming, Jerry will offer advice and discussion on setting ourselves on the path to financial health.

Holiday Etiquette With Maire Dubuque-Third Fridan
What sort of things do you do to show and teach your kids the true meaning of holidays? Do you have any particular traditions that help instill the true meaning? Do you expect good manners and gratefulness from your children when they receive/give a gift? Do you set spending limits or number of gift limits?

Marie Dubuque will join us to talk about holiday etiquette and how to handle social situations with grace and gratitude at the holidays.

As an Etiquette expert and life coach Marie Dubuque examines rudeness in the digitalage. How do you handle it when someone blocks you on Facebook? What do you say if you've just embarrassed yourself at a cocktail party and the host snubs you? From one blunder to another, Marie deals with every aspect of living amongst loud obnoxious people glued to their cell phones all day long. Marie talks about surviving and thriving in a society where rudeness has become a way of life. And she firmly believe you can be polite and kind and still get ahead in this world!

Fund the Farm - 2nd Friday Parenting Show

In the holiday season, how do you give back to the world? How do you show your children what giving back is? Do you limit your giving to your family, or do you extend it beyond your biological or family circle?

Today on Mom of Many Hats Radio, we will be speaking to Amber Singleton Riviere, who is giving back to the world in a wonderful way. She is also showing that parenting and the nurturing instinct is not simply dependent on bilogicial connection, but on heart.

As the founder of Fund the Farm, Amber Singleton Riviere wanted to find a way to have a greater impact on foster care within the U.S.  After deciding to adopt a child of her own, it didn't take long for her to decide it would be from foster care.  When she saw the number of kids who had been abused, abandoned, neglected, or for whatever reason ended up in foster care, she was at first overwhelmed and heartbroken.  Over time, though, she started to see that she had room for these kids or, rather, could make room, and so began the idea of Fund the Farm.

Join us as Amber talks about her dreams, goals and vision for Fund the Farm, and to find out how you can be a part of this amazing project.

Tough Conversations - Second Friday Parenting Hat

Do you dread those tough conversations with your kids? What kinds of conversations are hard for you as a parent to have with your kids? What conversations are tough and uncomfortable for  your kids to hear?

Sometimes it's difficult to sit our kids down and have frank discussion about things they may encounter in life.  We feel self conscious, uncomfortable, and even maybe a bit embarrassed when we are faced with having the conversations with our kids about sex.  We may think that our kids would never have a need to know abou the dangers of alcohol and drugs.  We may think that our kids are on the right path and don't need a lot of direct conversation about things that happen in life and  the choices they will face - and of the consequences of both.

Tamra Wade of PaperHopeBlog joins Mom of Many Hats Radio to talk about the discussions we must be having with our kids.  We'll talk topics, strategies, and the potential cost of not having these talks with our kids. Get in on the conversation with us as we support each other in being the best parents we can be!

Coming August 27th.. Fourth Friday Creative Hat!

How do you define creativity? We will be looking at wearing our creativity hat with Sarah Whitenhafer.

As moms, we engage in so many activities that are creative, but we don't always realize how valuable our creativity is.  Our creativity is an expression of ourselves.  It is also a lesson to our children about how to express who they are through creating something outside of themselves.

Creativity comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes.  It could be music, art, dance - anything that allows an outlet of expression that is different that the common spoken word.  Sarah will  share her creative journey with the written word as she takes us through the process of writing her novel, Tamed .  We will be talking about what creativity is, what impact it as on us as moms. and the impact it has on our families.
