Wizard of the Desert, An Alexander Vesely Film

The Wizard of the Desert, An Alexander Vesely Film

Director Alexander Vesely joins us on Friday to talk to us about his new Film "Wizard of the Desert", produced by Noetic Films, Inc. in cooperation with The Milton H. Erickson Foundation.

The work of Milton H. Erickson, M.D., often referred to as “The Mozart of Communication,” shocked the scientific community with new and effective theories for therapeutic intervention, which even today defy scientific explanation. But it is his personal story that commands our initial attention.

How does a child born in the silver mining community of Aurum, Nevada, and soon to be ghost town at 7,500 feet above sea level, survive all odds after being stricken with polio to grow into the man destined to become an evolutionary genius in the fields of hypnosis and psychotherapy?

To overcome paralysis and chronic, debilitating pain and muscle wasting, Dr. Erickson ignored his doctor’s prognosis of helplessness and hopelessness, and went on to invent a protocol for hypnosis, which controls the mind, body and spirit. His exceptional work exposes his true genius and continues to lend hope and curative relief to vast numbers of patients through the hypnotic techniques he developed.

In “Wizard of the Desert,” we see an extraordinarily gifted and extremely disciplined man in a wheelchair, whose victories over severe pain, paralysis and life altering medical conditions continue to inspire awe long after his death. Uncompromising in the demands he placed on himself and his family, Dr. Erickson’s story redefined medical philosophies and continues to mesmerize students and audiences alike.

Through the eyes of those closest to him, our film reveals three dimensions of this unsung American genius whose contributions to modern psychotherapy and hypnosis forever memorialized him as the…”The Mozart of Communication; The Eccentric; and The Wounded Healer.”

When I Walk with Filmmaker Jason DaSilva

Filmmaker Jason DaSilva

www.wheniwalk.com

______________________________

I started the film back in 2006 because I thought it would be a really interesting art project to follow myself as my walking got worse and worse from MS. I was inspired  by many artists, like performance artist Marina Abramović and video artist Vito Acconci. I wanted to tell the story of people going through MS because I just don’t think it had been done before and people need to see how it impacts the lives of those living with it. I discovered that in order to make a film such as this you have to have a rigorous tenacity; and I now possess this quality. Documentarians often want to build trust and acceptance with their subjects. Being the subject of my film, I don’t think I ever really had that acceptance.  Every night, I would have these dreams of being able to walk; and then I wake up and can’t move.  So there was always the internal struggle of putting myself on camera; and as I got worse and worse, reviewing the footage became difficult.

Filmmaking can be spontaneous, and as much I love directorial control I had to let the production call the shots and trust my collaborators. As a filmmaker who has shot all of my footage myself, it was hard to hand over directorial control over to my mother and even to my friends and other family members. We filmed from 2006-2013, and accumulated seven years worth of footage with a shooting ratio of 600:1. You can say were running, and editing, on twelve terabytes of footage.

WHEN I WALK shows a unique, first hand perspective on the transformation of becoming disabled. The first scene in the film is me on the beach with my family. What was sets out to be a nice family vacation, turned out to be the inciting incident. So even though I brought my camera along to film the family get together it ending up becoming something a lot more impactful. But it was also the very first time I had something go completely awry with my MS.

Life presents its challenges but the one thing that can be learned from the film is that you try and adapt to the challenges you’ve been given.

You are in a restaurant enjoying your morning coffee and sharing stories with some good friends when suddenly:   you feel  ill at ease, perhaps nauseous, sweaty, gripped with pain or maybe you are overcome with just a feeling of real “unwellness”.

You ask yourself, is this it?  Am I having a heart attack?  What shall I do?  Maybe if I just go home and rest a bit, I will be ok?  Should I drive to a hospital?  Should I call an ambulance?  Should I call family?  Should friends drive me or should I drive myself?   The next words you hear are a doctor saying, “you’ve had a moderate heart attack.”  Now, I don’t know about you but the words, mild or moderate and heart attack don’t marry well in my mind.

Our guest today, Neal Martin, recently survived a heart attack and is here to answer all those questions for us and more.   Neal not only survived but is “surthriving” in his new path to ultimate wellness.  His studies and teachings can help you and perhaps save your life or the life of a loved on.  This is an important show.   Please join in or download the podcast.   I promise you, Neal will give us some great information!

Tom has a very simple "Three Prong Attack" on Internet marketing, which is extremely simple and easy to understand. Tom is no "techie" . All he cares about is where to click to make money and he teaches his students the exact techniques he uses to pull in $75,000.00 to $220,000.00 in a month from his home office. These consistent high profit / low overhead Internet sales have made Tom an Internet Multi Millionaire in a very short period of time.

Since Tom consistently makes large sums of money while sitting in front of his computer this gave him the idea for his infamous "Butt Camp" Seminars where you learn to make more money sitting on your “rear” than going out and working for a living.

Tom has students in his mentor program who are e-millionaires and many are making 5, 10, 15 or $20,000.00 US per month.

Friday, January 18th on Talk Sense Radio: Dr. Ann V. Graber

Featured Guest:  Dr. Ann V. Graber

Near Death Experiences and their Life-Transforming Impact

Author:  The Journey Home: Preparing for Life's Ultimate Adventure

________________________________

_____

Ann V. Graber, Ph.D., author of Viktor Frankl’s Logotherapy, has earned the respect of students around the world as an instructor of Franklian Psychology, a meaning-centered approach to living. For many years she served as faculty and director of the distance learning outreach of the Viktor Frankl Institute of Logotherapy.

More recently, she became Director of the Graduate Center for Pastoral Logotherapy, the first graduate-level program with a core curriculum in Pastoral Logotherapy that is ecumenically applicable. It focuses specifically upon the pastoral character and practice of professionals working in pastoral care and counseling.

Dr. Frankl teaches that we craft our monument of life by the life we lead; and, in the end, we take the harvest from life experiences with us. This was validated for Ann when she had a “so-called” near death experience.

Since her own “wake-up-call” Ann has been yearning to assist her fellow travelers - on this pilgrimage through life - to view death as a “commencement”, rather than the end to life. She will soon have an opportunity to teach a tutorial on Near Death Experiences and their Life-Transforming Impact, offered by the Graduate Theological Foundation.

The tutorial is based on her second book, The Journey Home: Preparing for Life’s Ultimate Adventure. The primary objective of this book, and the tutorial, it is to help lessen the fear of death and dying. Learning to view death as a graduation when our life tasks are completed here, we can then journey homeward on the continuum of consciousness - taking the wisdom gleaned from our experiences with us.

We are all looking for a way to lead a better life. Whether you’re focused on finances, romance or overall quality, we want life to be everything we need it to be. And more than anything we want achieving these goals to be simple.

When Cheryl Maloney first started writing a blog in 2009, it was her therapy, her solace. She was out-of-work, out-of-shape, over-fifty corporate executive, collecting unemployment, questioning her own worth, dealing with her husband’s scary health diagnoses and beating herself up for the stupid financial mistakes she had made.

Many of us have been there, or are there, and we’re convinced it’s just how things are. But it’s not how things have to be, and Cheryl is determined to help people come to that realization.

There is no complex plan, expensive program or sage wisdom required. It takes only one small change in perspective, in attitude, in action to change your life. Within you is everything you need to create your dream life. We, however, let life get in the way of our dreams, and it takes a gentle nudge to enable us to see clearly.

Simple Steps for Real Life is that gentle nudge. Whether you need to move past your past, learn to trust your own instincts or break out of a rut, it takes only the smallest action to make a huge difference. And that’s what this book shows you how to do. It’s up to you to decide if you are ready to move forward.

Talk Sense Radio Welcomes Zack Weinstein April 20

In 2005, Zack Weinstein broke his neck, shattering the C4 through C6 vertebrae in a terrible accident. Luckily for Zack, three of the people who witnessed the accident were lifeguards. They stabilized him and he was rushed to the hospital.

After the accident, he took a year off from school. When he returned to Skidmore College, a small Liberal Arts school in Upstate New York, he continued with his Theater major. Zack graduated from Skidmore in May 2009 and set out for Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

He has gone on to make a name for himself with the love and support of his family and friends. Weinstein has appeared in numerous theater, films, and television shows, including NCIS and Glee.

A.I.R. Attitudes in Reverse

Attitudes In Reverse:  A.I.R.

www.attitudesinreverse.org

Kenny ...Your Joy Shines in your Smile!

Kenny Baker, smart, beaming with youthful joy and happiness at times-- loving family, great student, loving son and brother. Sounds like the perfect picture, right? Yet Kenny suffered from unrelenting anxiety and severe depression.

Despit
e the best treatments and all the love in the world from his family, felt he could not go on and at the age of 19, completed suicide. His parents and his sister, devastated of course, picked up the pieces and instead of withering away from this issue or trying to sweep it under the rug as so many people do, have begun a community outreach project A.I.R. (Attitudes in Reverse) to educate and raise awareness for mental illness so that no other family will have to live through this nightmare.

Kenny  is loved so much!
