Our Milk Money's Ally LoPrete and Nika Stewart, Laptop Mom

In 2008, Ally founded the widely popular OurMilkMoney.com, an online search directory that lists the products and services of self-employed parents in more than 80 cities across the nation.  Through her own passion to create a society where parents are given an alternative to expensive daycares and long hours away from home, Ally has helped to inspire a movement that has parents everywhere realizing their power as consumers, and uniting together to rebuild a broken economy with home based businesses. Ally Loprete has been featured in nationally in Magazines such as Working Mother Magazine, in trades such as the Los Angeles Daily News and ABC TV's Eye Witness News, and in a great deal of internet media including The Business Opportunities Weblog, Divine Caroline, Motherhood Incorporated, WorkItmom, Work at Home Success, and The Mommy Reporter, to name just a few.

Originally occupying a career in the Entertaining Industry,  and with a background and education in the Performing Arts, Ally's career and public personality first began to take shape by her success with her various roles in hundreds of theatrical productions, television and film. She spent years entertaining her public across the country by singing, story telling, and acting.  An advocate of Outreach for today's youth, Ally led Improvisation Workshops to troubled teenagers residing at the Los Angeles Youth Network, The Santa Clarita Community Center and Shooting Stars Center. She had a successful extended run of her Solo written and performed show "Chasing Ally", At Circle X's Theatre in Hollywood, and is now a known motivational speaker to many women's groups across the country.

Ally's determination to help other parents transition from full time working parent to successful self-employed parent has grown from her own experiences. Prior to becoming a self-employed parent, Ally spent several years in various creative roles at ABC Television on the Disney lot, and although her time there was rewarding and plentiful,  it wasn't until her first son was born that she came to realize her true calling in life. Returning to work with knots in her stomach from dropping her newborn off at a poorly run home daycare, she became determined to find a way to better her family's situation.  Ally's determination was fueled by her love of her children and her passion for helping others, and it ultimately led to her success as a self-made, stay-at-home mom and entrepreneur.

She is determined to help other's deal with the sometimes overwhelming prospect of starting a new business while still running a household, and is resolute about creating a haven in which parents across the nation will continue to thrive and will get the support they need in their personal journeys.

Some describe NIKA STEWART as a talented, quirky designer, while others
regard her as a cutting-edge businesswoman. And while both descriptions are
accurate, they do not capture her true essence.

Nika is a lifestyle entrepreneur: A professional who has seamlessly integrated
her career into her life. She has a passion for creating exciting information
products and coaching motivated clients to achieve positive, life-altering results.
She also loves communicating with her ever-expanding network of colleagues,

offers:  Freedom to carve her own lifestyle and flexibility to spend quality time
with her husband and daughter.
Nika built a successful, 10-year career as an award-winning interior designer.
After the birth of her daughter, Ellie, she established a new business that enabled

created a suite of information products that teaches designers how to build
profitable businesses.

Nika soon discovered that other moms were searching for this same solution: a

take care of family priorities.

So Nika launched www.LaptopMom.com to show moms how to leverage their

Be Invincible! With Vince Papale of the Philadelphia Eagles

VINCE PAPALE

In 1976 Vince Papale was in his 6th year of teaching at his alma mater, Interboro High School while was working on his master’s degree in counseling and also coaching football and track.  As a 10 year season ticket holder for his beloved Philadelphia Eagles Vince had a dream . . . to be an Eagle.  At the same time the USA was celebrating its bi-centennial birthday.  1976 was a time when Philadelphia fans were buried in 11 years of defeat, when Americans were battling the lingering effects of Watergate, the Vietnam War, and a sweeping energy crisis.  Ordinary people appeared badly in need of a champion from their ranks, and this local schoolteacher/coach answered their call.

The Philadelphia Eagles had hired a passionate and idealistic rookie Head Coach, Dick Vermeil, who boldly announced that he wanted to shake up his new team and publicized that he was going to conduct an open tryout for all comers.  Ignoring all of the nay sayers and doubters Vince not only attended the try out but he was offered a contract on the spot and he got the sweet and ultimate last laugh by making the team.

Re-inventing himself from a 30 year schoolteacher, who did not play football in college, to an NFL star, Vince Papale defied the million to one odds against him.  Not only did he make the team but he was voted by his teammates Captain of the Special Teams and most recently was selected by the fans as the best Special Teamer in the Eagles 75 year history.

He has received numerous awards around the country for his charitable contributions and efforts including the coveted Vince Lombardi Award for Courage for overcoming his dance with colon cancer.  To note he has also received the American Cancer Society’s “Courage & Inspiration Award”; the Second Mile’s “Excellence Award”; the United Way’s “Gold Award”; the Jaycee’s “Distinguished Service Award”; and the Chapel of the Four Chaplains “Humanitarian Award”, to name just a few.  He has even had the American Flag flown in his honor over the United States Capitol and by the troops in Afghanistan.

He is married to the former Janet Cantwell who was on the USA World Gymnastics team.  They have two children, Gabriella and Vincent. Vince is the subject of the blockbuster Disney movie, Invincible, which topped the charts for 2 straight weeks after its release 2 years ago.  Now, in today’s fragile economic times, he continues to respond to the need for a motivating hero who knows what it’s like to battle and overcome adversity. He is regarded as one of the top motivational speakers in the country, lends his support to too numerous charities to mention, and is currently working on his second book, “How to be Invincible in Tough Times”.

August 1st: Designer Stacy Garcia

Trendsetter. Business Owner. Tae Kwon Do Master.

Design Guru. Color Anthropologist. Mom.

Every Stacy Garcia Design has a different story. Something inspired us to choose a certain color combination, create a unique pattern, or pick up on a particular style. Stacy Garcia takes a unique approach to design — and her story is also unique.

A leader in hospitality design, Stacy came by her love for travel naturally. Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, to parents who “spent a little too much time following the Grateful Dead on a motorcycle,” she is a descendant of German, Russian and Polish immigrants. As the oldest of three siblings and the mother of three boys, with a soon-to-be adopted Russian daughter on the way, she loves her family, and enjoys traveling and practicing Tae Kwon Do with her sons.

“At the end of the day, design is about wanting to feel connected,” Stacy notes. “It’s a form of communication — a language. If you are part of a tribe of people, you feel more connected. I’m inspired by the designers, manufacturers and individuals with whom I work; and I hope to empower others to have the confidence to make their own connections and creations — in design, and in life.”

Respected for her inventive use of color and remarkable pattern design skills, Stacy Garcia knows the hospitality and lifestyle design industries, inside and out. Her signature designs and in-depth knowledge of color and trends are informed by a long and rich history of working first-hand with engravers, mill colorists, loom technicians and major lifestyle and hospitality brands.

Stacy studied Textile Design at Central St. Martins in London, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Surface Pattern Design from New York’s prestigious Syracuse University. She began her professional career selecting color palettes, and assisting in design and showroom development for Ralph Lauren’s Home Collection. Following her work with the iconic brand, Stacy was hired as Senior Designer for Richloom Contract Fabrics, where she directed the textile and pattern design collections.

She went on to start her own consulting firm, and is now the founder and CEO of two successful companies — the Stacy Garcia® lifestyle brand, and LebaTex®, Inc., a fabric converting firm and certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE). Stacy’s designs have been featured in Bloomingdale’s catalogs, as well as industry publications such as New Look, Interior Design Magazine and Hotel Design Magazine; and she has been recognized with a Presidential Citation Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Design Profession through the American Society for Interior Design (ASID). Stacy Garcia products can be seen in fine hotels, resorts, timeshares and residences across the world, including the Hilton Hawaiian Village Hotel and Resorts in Hawaii, the five-star Halekulani Hotel on the Waikiki beachfront, the Hilton in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Northglenn, Colorado, the Holiday Inn Nickelodeon Suites in Orlando, Florida, the Fairfield Resorts Skyline Tower in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Doubletree hotels in Tennessee, and Marriott hotels in Florida.

BIOGRAPHY

With performances on national and international television, in stadiums and theaters around the country, for Fortune 500 companies, and at The White House, audiences around the world have hailed Michael Grandinetti as an extremely talented entertainer with a unique style, a compelling creative vision, and an engaging personality.  Over the past 20 years, Michael has strived to make magic contemporary and to give it a wide, mainstream appeal.  He has been featured on NBC’s “The World’s Most Dangerous Magic II”, “Entertainment Tonight”, ''New York Today", "FOX & Friends", “The Bold and the Beautiful”, "Crook & Chase", and "The Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon", two years in a row.  Michael has also appeared on radio stations across the country, including several nationally syndicated broadcasts.

In addition, Michael has created and developed custom presentations for Fortune 500 companies and major corporations including Mazda, Hewlett Packard, Grainger, Ernst & Young, The American Marketing Association, Harley-Davidson, Benjamin Moore Paints, and Bayer and has designed original illusions for national and international film, television, and stage productions.

With a true passion for amazing audiences, Michael has performed at Heinz Hall with three time Oscar-winning composer Marvin Hamlisch and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Grand Central Station and the Javits Center in New York City, Navy Pier in Chicago, the MGM Grand and Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut, the Fairmont Orchid Resort in Hawaii, and on the red carpet of ESPN's ESPY Awards held at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.  Michael was also recently honored to be a featured performer at the White House Easter Celebration.

Last year, the World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies invited Michael to open one of their home games at Citizens Bank Park stadium with his original, large-scale visual illusions.  Taking magic in a direction its never gone before, Michael made the 7ft, 300lb Phillies mascot, The Phanatic, instantly appear in the outfield, teleported selected Phillies items from one side of the field to the other, caused 200 baseballs to fill a once empty box, and levitated 15ft over the pitcher’s mound to retrieve the game ball – all while surrounded by a live audience of 45,000 people.  In addition, after the 5th inning, Michael performed one of the largest live interactive illusions in history when he read the minds of all 45,000 people in the stadium at the same time.  After the show, the Director of Marketing for the Phillies wrote, “The reviews are in and you were a big hit.  The show was outstanding!”

This year, Michael once again brought his magic to a major stadium when he performed during the Sky Show at Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium in front of a live audience of 40,000 people.  The show paid tribute to the 25th Anniversary of the Kansas City Royals World Series Championship with a complete audio-visual experience blending pyrotechnics, special effects, grand illusion, high-definition video, and a choreographed musical score.  In addition, the event featured the iconic Kauffman Stadium fountains and CrownVision - the largest HD video board in baseball.  With LED ribbon boards throughout the stadium, the show was truly a 360-degree experience.  Once again, a sold-out audience watched Michael levitate, vanish, appear and even shrink in size from every possible angle.

Performing magic and illusions in a stadium, outdoors, while surrounded by bright lights and people in every direction certainly creates a unique challenge.  However, Michael and his team enjoy taking on such challenges.  Having studied magic for over 20 years, Michael applies his vast knowledge of illusion, engineering, and psychological principles to create his illusionary designs.  Then, working with a team of builders who have constructed larger than life effects for David Copperfield, Michael Jackson, and several Broadway shows, Michael guides his creative visions from abstract to concrete, bringing them to life.

With his unique ability to design and incorporate magic to fit any theme, Michael’s work has been featured in sales programs, trade shows, and corporate galas around the country, showcasing his client’s products, messages, and team members in unique and memorable ways.  For example, when JDA Software wanted to illustrate that their company could not be harmed by their competitor’s dangerous lies, Michael magically passed a wall of razor sharp steel spikes through their CEO.  When The American Marketing Association wanted to illustrate ”communication at the speed of light”, Michael caused a computer to teleport across the stage in the blink of an eye and made their CEO magically appear from a two-dimensional video screen.  And this is just a small example of the custom branded magic Michael can create.

Michael Grandinetti has come a long way since first taking up the art of magic at the age of 5.  When he was just 20 years old, Michael created and produced his own two-hour show at Pittsburgh’s historic Byham Theater.  During the performance, a sold-out crowd of twelve-hundred people watched in amazement as Michael made a 500 lb. Harley-Davidson motorcycle appear in mid-air, brought a painting of a beautiful woman to life, and levitated on the point of a razor sharp sword.  That same year, Michael was honored to receive the City of Pittsburgh’s “All-Star Achievement Award”, given to those who have carved positive and noteworthy paths in their industry.

Michael’s personality and style were introduced to the world when he performed his original creation “The Spike Tower” on the NBC television special “The World’s Most Dangerous Magic II”.  While covered with a mixture of gasoline and kerosene and secured by chains, Michael had only sixty seconds to escape before two walls of flaming steel spikes were thrust towards him at over 50mph. Bringing together seven of the world’s top illusionists, Michael was the youngest performer on the show.

When ABC Family wanted to promote their "World Magic Awards" television special, Michael was contacted to create and stage spectacular live demonstrations throughout New York City.  During the event, passersby watched in amazement as Michael levitated a woman while completely surrounded at various locations including Columbus Circle, Grand Army Plaza, and Grand Central Station.  As a tribute to one of magic’s legendary performers, Doug Henning, Michael repeated the illusion using Doug’s original equipment, this time levitating actress Rachelle Wells high above the beach in Santa Monica, California.

Michael's other live performances include over 100 shows at the world-famous Magic Castle (one of the few performers to headline in all four showrooms), CBS Television's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and the Woman of Valor Gala in Beverly Hills with celebrity organizers including Danny DeVito, Rhea Perlman, and Jamie Lee Curtis.  Michael also successfully predicted the exact score of Superbowl XXXVII, two weeks in advance, live on Los Angeles radio and appeared on the nationally syndicated “Westwood One Radio Network”.

As a respected Creative Consultant, Michael Grandinetti is very accomplished behind the scenes. His original illusion designs have been featured at the Grand Palace in Branson and on the television series “Paolo Limiti” in Italy.  Michael was also contacted to contribute an original illusion for the recent Pamela Anderson show at the Hard Rock Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.  In addition, Michael taught magic to the actors on the CBS Daytime Drama "The Bold and the Beautiful" for one of their storylines, consulted on a national commercial featuring sleight of hand for the United States Treasury, and provided additional magic techniques in the instructions for a unique piece of close-up magic marketed by David Blaine and Daniel White.

Last year, Michael was a historical/magic consultant for the book “Spellbound”, detailing the life of Doug Henning.  Michael is also featured in the book “Variety Acts: Gaining Respect” along with six other noted illusionists, including famed Las Vegas performer Lance Burton.

Michael Grandinetti presents the art of illusion with an engaging, charismatic and contemporary style. By combining stunning magic with compelling music, comedy, suspense, and audience participation, the result is an unforgettable entertainment experience.

June 27th: Vanessa Alward-My Kids Really Eat This

In news lately it seems we all hear how important it is to get kids to eat well.  There are numerous studies and reports on a growing obesity epidemic in the U.S. especially among young people.  So how does one actually get their children to eat healthily?  Vanessa Bronder Alward is here to help.

Vanessa is a mother of 3 boys and married to a chef. Although she is an investment advisor in her other career she began her blog after years of people asking her for advice on what to cook, buy or how she got her kids to eat certain foods (especially vegetables).  Even though she isn't an expert; her love of food; experience of successfully getting her own kids and helping many friends' children eat particular and varied foods; knowledge gleaned through reading such books by Michael Pollan, Robyn O'Brien and Marion Nestle; and being sort of an apprentice to her chef husband Vanessa decided she could help others.  She is much loved and appreciated by those with whom she's shared her skills.

Her blog My Kids Really Eat This has thousands of followers from around the world and she has been a guest chef on TV and other website/blogs as well as having feature articles published about her in the press.

Vanessa has just launched a consulting business to help those in her surrounding area (Fairfield County, CT).  She offers an initial consultation in the person or family's home, will look at what's in their kitchen/pantry, listen to their specific challenges and devise a tailored list of strategies to help overcome those challenges then have a  follow-up call to see how the family is progressing.  Vanessa also offers private lessons, au pair instruction and companion shopping.

May 23rd: Designer Liz Lange and author Hollee Schwartz Temple

Liz Lange is a retail and fashion pioneer.  In 1997, out of a one-room office, she created the Liz Lange Maternity, changing forever the face of maternity fashions. A decade later in 2007, after dressing every major pregnant celebrity, forging licensing deals with Nike and Target (today, Liz Lange for Target is the exclusive maternity department at all Target locations), and opening three flagship Liz Lange boutiques, Lange sold her business though she continues on as the face of that brand.

She is the author of Liz Lange's Maternity Style:  How to Look Fabulous dueing the Most Fashion-Challenged Time (Random House, 2003).  She is the co founder of the popular woman's shopping site, Shopafrolic.com.

Lange is actively involved in many charities and is a spokesperson for cervical cancer awareness.  She live in Manhattan with her 12-year-old son, Gus and her 10-year-old daughter, Alice.

Hollee Schwartz Temple is a journalist-turned-lawyer-turned-professor at West Virginia University College of Law. She has first-hand experience with the challenges faced by her generation of female lawyers and has successfully melded her desires for professional satisfaction and family time by working in the law school environment.

After graduating at the top of her class with a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree from Northwestern University, Hollee headed to Duke University School of Law. She graduated in 1999 and began a four-year stint as a litigation associate at a large Pittsburgh law firm. After her first son was born in 2002, Temple returned to her firm part-time before joining the WVU faculty the next year.

An active scholar and speaker, Hollee writes the work/life balance column for the American Bar Association Journal, and has been published in newspapers (including the Miami Herald, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and Michigan City News-Dispatch), national law reviews and legal writing publications. She recently gave the plenary address at her discipline’s international conference, and has conducted seminars on generational issues and projecting professionalism in writing for large law firms. A faculty associate of the Women’s Studies program, she was recently selected to serve on the internal advisory board of West Virginia University ADVANCE Center, working to improve work/life and women’s issues on campus.

In 2008, Hollee celebrated ten years of marriage with John Temple, a journalism professor and author of two narrative non-fiction books, including The Last Lawyer: The Fight to Save Death Row Inmates, which won the 2010 Scribes Book Award from the National Association of Legal Writers. She is constantly amused and amazed by her feisty red-headed sons: Gideon, 8 (who is raising eyebrows around Morgantown by convincing his classmates to root for the rival Pitt Panthers), and Henry, 6 (who once swallowed a penny while in timeout for putting dangerous objects in his mouth). Hollee starts every legal writing class with a blaring music video (she tells her students it’s because she’s the rock star of legal writing but it’s really to wake them up), and she often brings down the house with her karaoke rendition of Dusty Springfield’s Son of a Preacher Man. If she’s not teaching, speaking, grading, writing or hanging with the family, she’s probably doing yoga.

Hollee blogs about work/life issues at http://thenewperfect.com. Her new book, Good Enough Is the New Perfect: Finding Happiness and Success in Modern Motherhood (Harlequin Nonfiction), will be available nationwide in late April 2011.
