The world of advertising has always been about creative messaging, proper placement and of course, budget. But in the world of digital cross-communication, even herculean efforts in advertising may be wasted.
My guest today is Steve Olenski, Senior Content Creative Strategist for Responsys, a leading provider of email and cross-channel marketing. Their services include email, mobile, social, the web and display. Steve brings to his company and to my listeners a very unique set of talents and passions. He's worked in marketing department of two Fortune 500 companies. He's worked for various sized ad agencies in creative development, branding and copywriting roles. This man knows full well how marketing and advertising should work together to achieve ultimate success.
But even more important to the listeners of this show, Steve is without question, a social media evangelist. An expert blogger and highly influential, he's been names one of the Top 100 Influencers in Social Media by Social Technology Review and a Top 50 Social Media Blogger by Kred. In addition to his current role at Responsys, Steve continues to write for Forbes, Ad Age, Business Insider, Business 2 Community, Social Media Today, Branding Magazine and more.
The foundation of today's interview stems from a blog post his wrote recently titled "This Just In: A Lot of People Don't Trust Advertising" Subtitle: Shocking. Surprising. Astonishing. "If you used any or all of these words to describe your reaction to the title of this article and you are in marketing or advertising - you may want to seriously consider a career change." While Steve's words may send shock waves through your system and prompt you to put a padlock on your checkbook, I think you'll find that there is hope for advertising - and in fact - a continued and important place for advertising, but it is definitely different from what you have been doing in the past.
