We can talk about it, or we can actually do it.
If you listened to last week's show you know that we are heading into some uncharted territory- and that is exactly the way I like it.
Parents, if you have been listening in each week, you already have the motivation you need to make a change for the better. I have no doubt. What you don't have are the tangible solutions to put your enthusiasm into action.
To give you a quick recap, a new line-up of show topics was announced last week. These next 13 weeks we'll be bringing you step by step tutorials on things like approaching your current employer with a telecommute proposal, surviving as a family on a single salary, and how to effectively barter yourself and your services to compensate for what may be lacking in your bank account. We'll bring you already established home based business models, like mom blogging, virtual assisting and project management, and a whole lot more.
If the last 30 shows were about staying sane and surviving, then the next 30 will be about putting objectives into action and thriving.
On Friday, I will be welcoming a very important guest- so important that I can almost guarantee one show will not be enough for Mr. Brian Harmsen, Founder and CEO of Designworks Talent, LLC. An ex-colleague of mine from once upon a time, Brian is one of those rare individuals who has a true understanding of business industry trends, but more importantly, he has the outstanding ability to translate it for the rest of us dummys. (I say it with love.)
I have always known that Brian had no business working for anyone other than himself. Visionaries like Brian are not often rewarded for thinking outside of the box in Corporate America, but once set free to run without any limitations, they are literally able defy gravity. So when he told me he had opened up his own recruiting firm, it felt as if our team just landed the star player of the century. Parent or not, as a business leader and entrepreneur he gets us, is rooting for us, and is able to inspire movement that is in favor of us.
To top it off, he'll be offering us insight that will drop your jaw to the ground. So place yourself at the front of the class, and get ready to take some notes. This is just the beginning of how you will begin to understand your place in the virtual workforce and in rediscovering your path to legitimate job security.
We are not just talking about it anymore, we are going to give you the guidance you've been asking for. The mission has not changed, but it just became a whole lot more progressive. Lets get you home.
Topics to be covered on Friday (time allowing) are:
New business models for a post-recession economy
Virtual business vs. telecommuting
Challenges with decentralized, autonomous workforces – specialized skills needed as professionals and leaders to be successful in a non-office workforce
Slow evolution of large companies to migrate to new ways of organizing and engaging talent
Growing need for professionals to rethink career, autonomy, flexibility (quality of life, childcare, elder care, values)
