Entrepreneur, Founder of Simply Staci - Professional Organizer

Personal Organizer, Buisness Owner

Just like a personal trainer who teaches you different techniques to get in shape.

I teach you ways to simplify & streamline your everyday projects. We ALL have them!

Closet Detox It's time to purge and streamline

It never fails, that when you are in a hurry, that belt, scarf, other shoe, or shirt that you are looking for has become friends with “that missing sock” & you can’t find it. But the next day it has made it’s way back to the closet. How did that happen? And let’s not forget about the handbag and shoes that are toppled on the bottom of your closet.

Stop the Paper Chase MAIL, BILLS, AND EVERYDAY PAPERS, OH MY...

You get the mail. You know what junk mail needs to be tossed out. That's the easy part. But what to do with all those " I need to follow up with that" paper. Then, when you need it, you have to sift through everything to find it. Sifting is for flour, not your papers.

Kids activities It's hard to keep up with all that is going with kids.

Today, they are so involved in so many activities & their schedule is beginning to be as packed as yours. Overwhlemed with keeping up with their forms, report cards, school papers, doctor appts., sport schedules, birthday parties, buying gifts for birthday parties they attend, and other papers/projects that are mixed with all of your stuff?

Home Office: STREAMLINE YOUR PAPERWORK & SAVE TIME! Get rid of those piles of paper and breathe a sigh of relief! Turn your "to do" paper piles into organized files (with labels!).

Bedrooms: This room should be your santuary. Is it?Clear out papers, books, & clutter on nightstands, dressers, & armoires.

Playrooms/Toys Are your children's toys everywhere? Do you have tons of little pieces of toys that are left on the floor. Or do your kids never put anything away. I have created fabulous solutions for children's things, and they will enjoy putting their stuff away. Yup, it's true!

peace, balance, and love

Penny Miller Entrepreneur Creator of Keepsake Bows

Keepsake Bows was created by a busy mom looking to simplify her day and gift-wrapping amidst the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season. In the middle of wrapping her daughter’s gift, she wondered why nobody had created an easy way to close a gift bag to conceal her gift from sight. Her idea for a new clip-on gift bow was born, and she hasn’t stopped since.

After experimenting with many materials and designs, Keepsake Bows is proud to premiere our signature products; our Gift Bag Clips and Handmade Clip-On Gift Bows. Our beautiful open bows are a sure way to make any gift elegant in an instant while our gift bag clips securely close any gift bag and can hold a gift card on the bag. They can also be used as place cards, or centerpiece holders and any adornment or embellishment can easily be attached to the top.

We hope you’ll agree that our revolutionary design is at once beautiful and useful!

In addition to our gift bows, we offer various unique gift items on our website, including our own original art Cowgirl series. This line is premiering with two original pieces of artwork as 5”x7” gift cards in envelopes. We plan to expand this line into original canvas and wall art in the near future.

Our company philosophy is to offer unique, beautiful and useful gift items that can be re-used, recycled, and are made of recycled materials as well. We aim to offer green products that beautify and simplify the art of gift giving.

Green Giving

Keepsake Bows is committed to ensuring our products are made from recycled materials as often as possible. We are constantly looking for ways to implement green practices and reduce our carbon footprint as a company and as individuals.

Make Re-Giving cool!

Our products are the perfect item to re-use and re-give. Since our signature handmade clip-on bows are a gift in themselves, re-gifting them or reusing them for other purposes is simple! Share our beautiful bows with your next gift recipient. Keepsake bows are sturdy enough to reuse without worry, unlike more traditional gift bows so help us make re-giving cool! We challenge you!

Kathy Korman Frey Award-Winning Entrepreneur, Community Leader, Educator, and Curriculum Developer is the Founder of the Hot Mommas® Project

Kathy Korman Frey
Founder

“She awoke to siren-like ring of her phone on the bedside table. “3.00 am” glared through the darkness from the alarm clock. “This can’t be good,” she thought. While handling one personal crisis after another, how would she ever find time to grow her business? Her personal obligations were in a constant death match with her own self-confidence and goals.”

This is a typical start to a Hot Mommas® Project case study, a new generation of teachable story and virtual mentor for women and girls. Kathy Korman Frey, an award-winning entrepreneur, community leader, educator, and curriculum developer is the founder of the Hot Mommas® Project: The world’s largest collection of women’s case studies. The power of story is digitally delivered in this free, cutting edge, crowd-sourced online library driven largely by women in social media. The Hot Mommas® Project is the recipient of a Coleman Foundation Case Award and has been profiled by The Washington Post Magazine, NPR, and featured in Prentice Hall textbooks through which winning Hot Mommas Project cases are distributed globally each year.

This research side of the Hot Mommas Project (HotMommasProject.org) is housed at the George Washington School of Business, Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence and represents Frey’s work as part-time faculty and Entrepreneur in Residence. She teaches Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership, which is the recipient of a National Excellence in Entrepreneurship Education Award.

In 2010 HotMommasProject.com was launched to bring the valuable research library of women’s case studies to the public. The Hot Mommas Project “Sis U” seminar series measurably increases confidence and key success factors in women: 66% in three hours, and 200% in a full length program. Imagine being able to walk into a room thinking one way, and walk out thinking another way. This the Hot Mommas Project Sis U goal. So far, it’s working. A digital classroom is launching in 2012.

The polar opposite of ”digital” was taking place 25 years prior when Frey (then Korman) was filling large paper three-ring binders on the Virginia State Senate floor as a page. She was living at the Marriott, walking down Broad Street in Richmond each day, and doing her homework at night after work. A few years later, upon graduating the University of Virginia with an English degree, Frey serendipitously wound up in the business consulting world. The firm was looking for foreign language speakers, she spoke Italian, and the rest is history. Frey switched from Shakespeare to spreadsheets and got a mini MBA in four years while working as an analyst and moving up through the ranks to management. Fortune 500 companies ranging from Motorola to Hallmark to Pfizer were the clients at Markowitz & McNaughton, a competitive analysis/merger and acquisition firm which was one of the best in the business, and was later acquired.

Frey was a now a full-on business junkie, went on to attend Harvard Business School for her MBA, and afterwards joined the National Council on the Aging Development Corporation as its Chief Operating Officer. Frey’s long-time interest in the senior citizen’s area merged with the business side of things for her post-MBA job. There, she was part of the senior management team doing everything from helping to raise $8 million in strategic venture funds, to working on getting White House support for new endeavors, to assisting with starting or turning around projects in the eldercare space, to creating the ground-work for BenefitsCheckUp.org – a benefits-matching service which today provides a 200-to-1 ROI.

After marrying an entrepreneur, and writing a Harvard Business School case on him during her MBA program, Frey wondered: “Could I do it? Could I abandon the pats on the head to run my own shop?” Frey also thought about the potential flexibility this might deliver should they start – cough cough – start producing “Small Freys” in the near future. Frey later started Vision Forward, a firm comprised of highly skilled part-time consultants. These were the original “Hot Mommas”. The firm specialized in one and two-day planning bootcamps, and gained notoriety as one of the original flex-work companies as well its 94% success rate. Clients include AARP, Discovery Communications, Entrepreneurs Organization, Chief Executives Organization, the US Department of Justice, and the US Federal Drug Administration. Frey would send out emails to the consultants with the subject line “Calling all Hot Mommas” to see who was interested in the project she had just landed. By this time, Frey had started teaching at GW. Students were much more interested in the Hot Mommas than her consulting firm. So, one day, she decided to write a story – or “case study” – about one of them….and now, we’re right back where we started…That is how the Hot Mommas Project began.

The rest of the official stuff: Frey earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and her B.A. in English from the University of Virginia where she received the Seven Society’s James Earle Sargeant award for community service. She is a featured contributor on Maria Shriver’s Women’s Conference site, the author of the NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation curriculum taught to 40,000 junior high and high schoolers a year, a Harvard Business School case author, and dubbed one of “America’s Top Business Bloggers” by the HSM World Business Forum. She is a 2010 Washington Business Journal Women Who Means Business Awardee, and is the DC National Association of Women Business Owner’s 2011 Woman of Distinction. Frey is a regular speaker on the topics of women’s confidence, leadership, mentorship, and work-life balance. Frey is a former board member of the Alzheimer’s Association, National Capital Area, and currently serves on the board of United Women in Business and The Closet. She is a fourth generation Washingtonian including the people who arrived here on a boat, and lives with her husband, two children, and dog in a state of semi-controlled chaos.

Tiffany Krumins Mom Inventor of Ava the Elephant

Tiffany’s passion for helping sick children has been evident through her years of experience working with kids, including special needs and childhood cancer patients, which brought Ava the Elephant ™ to life! She realized no product on the market resolved the common problem of giving children medicine. So she took matters into her own hands and created the first Ava from clay!

After her life changing experience on ABC’s “The Shark Tank” she went home and spent months perfecting Ava to make sure she was as safe as she was helpful. In a twist of fate, Tiffany was diagnosed with cancer three months after the show (at the age of 28) which made her passion to help sick children even stronger!

She found that it was not necessarily children’s dislike for medicine that made it so difficult. After all, they can make it taste like BUBBLEGUM these days! The process was the scary part.

Realizing this, her first goal was to hide the medicine dropper completely! Her second was to make the child smile or laugh, hence the sweet voice! Last, but not least, she wanted their new little friend to praise them for a job well done!

Ava has received an overwhelming response from babies and young children! Tiffany hopes that Ava will make the jobs of Parents, Grandparents and caregivers much easier, but most importantly make children smile, not scream !

Lori Holliday Founder & Owner of 2RedHens

The word “no” is not a part of Lori Holliday’s lexicon. Nor are the phrases “that’s enough,” “I quit” or “it’s finished.  For Lori, the founder, president, brainchild and resident ‘Mama Hen’ behind 2 Red Hens Studio, nothing is ever done until it’s overdone, and good enough never really is. A modern day renaissance woman with an eye for fashion and knack for domesticity, Lori Holliday draws inspiration from her childhood. Raised on a farm as number thirteen in a family of fourteen children, Lori’s early memories are naturally larger than life and full of color, with just the right amount of charm and whimsy. Today, those memories have translated into Holliday’s coveted collection of apparel and home accessories, each more colorful, whimsical and inviting than the last. Once best known as a brand of vibrant diaper bags and accessories, the 2 Red Hens Studio line is Lori’s newest labor of love.

A former engineer with a PhD in physics, Lori Holliday did not always know she’d be a designer.  But she did know that she loved to create and find new uses for everyday objects. With a natural ability to look at things from a fresh perspective, Lori now channels that talent not into math and science, but into the 2 Red Hens Studio collection of repurposed lines – from flower brooches made of upcycled prom and bridesmaid dresses, to men’s belts crafted from decommissioned fire hoses, all the way to girls clothing fashioned from vintage bed linens.

Yet it is Lori’s tenacity and passion for life that 2 Red Hens is truly made of.  A cancer survivor, Holliday has spent the majority of her adult life hearing the word “no” – and politely refusing to listen.  First diagnosed with Cervical Cancer at the age of 20, Lori was told by countless doctors that she would never have children. Eleven years later, Lori and husband Mark welcomed son Luke into their family.  Five years after that, daughter Harper made them whole. And while she wouldn’t trade it for the world, the ride has not been smooth. During this time, Lori has fought six additional recurrences of cancer – and won every time.

Today, Lori not only sits at the helm of her growing company, but also as the head of a nonprofit organization that she has personally founded, Have Pearl Vaccine (HPV). Have Pearl Vaccine is committed to ending cervical cancer, a disease that is entirely preventable. The organization strives to educate girls and women on the facts about Cervical Cancer, and the resources and vaccines that, unlike twenty years ago when Lori was first diagnosed, are now available to prevent this tragic disease. With every item that 2 Red Hens Studio lovingly makes by hand, we are getting one step closer to ending Cervical Cancer. For good.

Lori Holliday and her family live in a picture perfect farmhouse in Colorado filled to the brim with collections she has cultivated over her lifetime.  Collections that have now become the materials that the 2 Red Hens Studio lines are made of....literally.

notable achievements…

Lori Holliday founded 2 Red Hens in 2004. Soon thereafter, it became a coveted line of upscale diaper and handbags for moms looking to hang on to their sense of style along with their bottles and booties.  Holliday’s original designs have enjoyed a cult-like following and have been sold in major retailers nationwide including:

v  Nordstrom

v  Amazon.com

v  Target.com

v  Babies R Us

v  Bloomingdale's

v  Fred Segal

v  diaperbags.com

v  csnstores.com

Holliday has also sold her line into over 2,000 well-known specialty stores during its tenure.

The industry quickly took notice of Lori Holliday’s design-savvy. She has designed and licensed products for powerhouses including:

v  Infantino IcO. Line (2007)

v  Ameda Breast Pump Bag (2009)

v  Qiagen, Cervical Cancer awareness bag (2006)

v  Glaxo Smith Klein, Cervical Cancer awareness bag (2009)

Eventually, Holliday’s collection needed the manpower and muscle of mass production.  She single-handedly lead all sourcing and management efforts as the company’s production moved to Asia in 2008.

Today, all products and fabric designs under the 2 Red Hens umbrella are original and proprietary to the company.

Brenda Jones Owner of Hugwraps- Cheerful Hospital Gowns

Bio:

I am 53, live in NJ and was diagnosed with breast cancer in 10/08 after finding a lump on a self exam.   It was a rollercoaster of emotions and I did not know which way was up.  The next couple months tested my strength and patience.  By the time I reached radiation in 1/09, I was the angries cancer patient you NEVER want to meet.  But with the help God, family and friends ( and my pets!)and God…I was able to turn this negative into a positive….AND help other cancer patients along the way.

Hug Wraps are a hospital gown alternative for cancer patients.  They are a kimono style wrap, opens in the front and ties with a belt.  Why did I design them?  Because during radiation treatments in 1/09, I HATED having to wear the hospital gown for daily treatments so I decided to make my own wrap to wear.  A friend had to teach me to sew first!  I bought bright and colorful flannel fabric and a used sewing machine and went to work.  First time I wore my Hug Wrap to the hospital, heads turned, eyebrows went up and jaws hit the floor.  I never expected anyone to even notice what I was wearing.  I started making one for another patient I knew in treatment….and it started from there.  To date I have made over 450 Hug Wraps for patients in the US and also as far away as Canada, England and Poland.

Challenges: There are so many cancer patients who could use a Hug Wrap to help them thru their difficult treatments.   I have simply run out of money since I have given away so many for free.  I turned Hug Wraps into a 501c(3) non-profit corp.  It is my goal to seek large companies/corporations that will sponsor what I do for cancer patients everywhere.

Accomplishments:  the best thing is when I receive emails or a thank you note from a patient….  They go on to tell me “thank you for giving me back some dignity.  They gain some inspiration, strength and hope as many hear my full story.  TO hear them tell me that when they put on a Hug Wrap to gp to treatments….they can’t help but put on a smile!  That says it all.

Favorite sayings:

“You need to wear something louder than cancer”

Wearing a Hug Wrap says “I matter”

Be the answer to someone else’s prayers

Additional info:

The best thing about making Hug Wraps for other patients, was that it helped to release my anger.  It became the best form of therapy for me.  During many restless days and sleepless nights, I would go to the kitchen, turn on the light and the radio and start sewing.  The more I sewed, the better I felt.  It gave my hands and my mind something to do.  Making Hug Wraps took the focus off the fact that I was a cancer patient.  I now had a mission to help others.

Broadcasting Live at The Inn At Fox Hollow. Today's Show: All About Franchising with Shannon Wilburn from Just Between Friends Franchise Systems, Inc.

Today's Show is Live from....

The Inn at Fox Hollow Pays it Forward in so many ways that we felt they deserved a great big shout out.

Today's buiness tip of the week will be provided by Vicki Colacicco, Scotto Brothers, Business Development & Marketing Manager.

The Inn at Fox Hollow -  7755 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, NY 11797 - 516.224.8200

Today's Guest: Shannon Wilburn - All About Franchising

Co-Founder Just Between Friends

Shannon Wilburn is Co-Founder and President of Just Between Friends Franchise Systems, Inc. Just Between Friends is the nation’s leading children’s and maternity consignment sales event. Established in 2004, the company has grown from just eleven franchises its first year to 110 franchises in 22 states, with several more under development.

It is called Just Between Friends because that is how it all began: between friends. Shannon and her business partner Daven Tackett started a sale in 1997. The two young, stay-at-home moms with small children were trying to find a way to save money on children’s items. They set up a "consignment" event in Shannon's living room with 17 women selling their children’s and maternity clothes, toys and baby equipment. Those who shopped found some great deals for their children and the sale grossed $2000.

The idea took off and Shannon and Daven began having two sales a year. Just Between Friends kept growing locally - very quickly. In 2010, they had nearly 3000 consignors at their two sales events in Tulsa with nearly 28,000 shoppers. Consignors sell their new and gently used children’s items at the event. They make money and earn money. The business is growing. This year the Tulsa events grossed almost 1.5 million. In 2003, Shannon and Daven formed Just Between Friends Franchise Systems, Inc. and started growing nationally. The franchise as a whole grossed more than $15 million in 2010. And each year, they reach hundreds of thousands of families across the country. They expect to top $20 million in sales in 2011.

Shannon graduated from Abilene Christian University with a degree in Elementary Education. Before having children, she worked as an elementary school teacher. Her experience includes working four years as an Account Executive for Community Spirit Magazine in Tulsa. In 2004, she dedicated her time to building Just Between Friends Franchise Systems Inc. as well as running the Tulsa JBF event. She has been married for 20 years and has a son Jake (16) and a daughter, Ashton, (15).

Shannon and her business partner Daven know all about “bootstrapping your business” because that is exactly what they did! The two young moms grew their business organically – reinvesting their profits in the next sale as Just Between Friends grew locally. They learned the value of “Strategic Partnerships” and “Collaboration” long before they became buzzwords in the business world. Shannon and Daven developed a “volunteer army” to work their sales and provide supplies and services for their business in exchange for a chance to “shop early” and get the best deals at JBF. They mastered the art of guerilla marketing, pounding the pavement to spread the word about JBF. As the business and its revenues grew, so did their marketing and public relations efforts, strategically promoting JBF to increase consigners, shoppers and therefore increasing sales. At a time when business loans and seed money are hard to come by, Shannon can share her ideas on how to bootstrap your business. She has helped almost 150 men and women do just that as successful franchise owners for Just Between Friends.

Just Between Friends has received national attention on several national television shows including ABC News, Good Morning America, CNN, Headline News, Inside Edition and CNBC’s The Big Idea. They have also been featured in The Seattle Times, St. Louis Post Dispatch, Sacramento Bee, LA Times, Daily Oklahoman and broadcast outlets in dozens of cities across the country including Dallas, Houston, Minneapolis, Denver and Seattle.

Allison LaMarr Master of All Coaches--Living Your Dream Life

Allison LaMarr works with women to help them get more out of life from their business.  She graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Marketing, and after a few years in corporate America, she realized that her chosen path wasn't going to produce the life she'd always dreamed of.  Tired of settling for mediocrity, she began to realize that if she could overcome the peer pressure of conformity, she could actually take control of her situation and shape her own destiny.

Introduced to a well-known direct sales company, Allison saw the opportunity to break out of the rat race.  Three years later, she became the fastest person in company history to reach their top independent position, breaking multiple records along the way.  She also earned five cars, 10+ carats in diamonds, six all-expense-paid luxury international vacations and well over a million dollars for her family before retiring (at the "ripe old age" of 31) to focus on her new mission of empowering entrepreneurs in all types of business.  She now works on a coaching and consulting basis with corporations, governments, small business owners, and work-from-home entrepreneurs.

She believes "living your dream life is possible for everyone, but you must refuse to settle for anything less." Allison's passion is to empower individuals to work smarter to achieve their dream life.  She is honored to have shared this message with thousands of people in almost every U.S. state and Canada.  Allison lives in Austin, Texas with her husband, James, an independent film producer, and their son, JD.

Ally Loprete has been featured in national Magazines such as Working Mother Magazine, in trades such as the Los Angeles Daily News and ABC TV's Eye Witness News, and in a great deal of internet media including Inc MagazineThe Business Opportunities Weblog, Divine Caroline, Motherhood Incorporated, WorkItmom, Work at Home Success, and The Mommy Reporter, to name just a few.

Ally's determination to help other parents transition from full time working parent to successful self-employed parent has grown from her own experiences. Prior to becoming a self-employed parent, Ally spent several years in various creative roles at ABC Television on the Disney lot, and although her time there was rewarding and plentiful,  it wasn't until her first son was born that she came to realize her true calling in life. Returning to work with knots in her stomach from dropping her newborn off at a poorly run home daycare, she became determined to find a way to better her family's situation.  Ally's determination was fueled by her love of her children and her passion for helping others, and it ultimately led to her success as a self-made, stay-at-home mom and entrepreneur.

She is determined to help other's deal with the sometimes overwhelming prospect of starting a new business while still running a household, and is resolute about creating a haven in which parents across the nation will continue to thrive and will get the support they need in their personal journeys.

Joann Hines The Packaging Diva Helps Critique gLovies Packaging

Have you worked really hard on inventing a product only to find out that after all of that hard work, you've come up with a great product but the reason it's not selling is due to it's packaging? Well, take it from me, your host of Paying It Forward, I have done just that. I beg of you, PLEASE learn from my mistakes. I am told over and over what a great idea gLovies are and the fact that it solves a problem (keeps kids safe from germs in public places) is an added bonus, but having the wrong packaging has actually cost me business.

I have the honor of having The Packaging Diva, Joann Hines as my guest on 12/15 to discuss everything I've done wrong with my first gLovies package design. We will then go into discussing the four new options for our gLovies re-design which has been submitted by two different designers. By the end of our show, we will all learn the necessary components every package should have and we will receive many helpful tips from our packaging expert.

Robyn Pellei – MompreneurPlus9, Founder and CEO ViveVita

ViveVita
Robyn Pellei – MompreneurPlus9

For ViveVita founder and CEO Robyn Pellei, life is – and has always been – an everyday adventure.

A stay-at-home mompreneur with nine children ranging from just one year to 10 years old, Robyn’s days are typically jam-packed from 6 a.m. until midnight with mommy duties, laundry, school work, emails, business calls, diapers, snacks, hugs, coffee, lots of prayers and genuine smiles, too.

Most would never guess by her calm, collected and warm demeanor that she’s deep in the trenches of parenthood. Or that she is a world traveler who’s eaten fresh monkey, cow toes, and turtle guts, that has ridden bareback on a horse through a river – and has lived to tell about it, too.

Robyn’s early days working as a registered nurse in the fast-paced emergency room and her Family Nurse Practitioner degree armed her with the patience and prioritization skills needed to tackle the daily challenges of motherhood. Since her first son was born in December of 1999, life in the Pellei household has become increasingly difficult to juggle with each new child introduced to the family. Out of necessity Robyn began creating her own timesaving, problem-solving solutions to ease the daily burdens of parenthood. In 2004 Robyn finally put a framework around her growing storehouse of ideas and launched a lifestyle product company known as ViveVita, roughly translated “living life.”  Five years and five children later, ViveVita now has multiple innovative product lines that are intended to help both parent and child, and that include elements of function and flair.

Bandettes were specifically created to solve a cup identification problem. With all the children, Robyn had definite cup confusion, leading to major germ spread and wasted drink. After unsuccessfully trying the cup color system and using the same cup for each child, they finally came up with the idea of using reusable bands as cup identifiers. And it worked like a charm.

In the long run Robyn hopes to make ViveVita products available to as many families as possible, with five distinct product divisions: those for children, the home, mature adults, green living and to support charitable causes. The Pellei’s already have line extensions planned for Bandettes and Gripsterz, and have three new products in varying stages of development.

A small-town Virginia girl with borderline Southern roots, Robyn has always managed to “get it all done” by standing on a firm foundation of good family, great friends and incredible faith.  From running a small medical clinic in West Africa to now overseeing the Pellei family school out of her home, there’s no adventure or challenge Robyn isn’t willing to take on.

Carolyn Carter Inventor of Clingy Cord

I am a SAHM to three beautiful kids.  I quit my full-time job as a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep in 2004, right after I had my daughter, Caitlin Mackenzie (aka CaitiMac), to pursue my full-time job as a SAHM.   In August  2007 I gave birth to my handsome little man, Chase, and in February of 2009 had another adorable baby girl, Camryn.  I love spending every second with my kids, and I feel so blessed that I can stay at home with them.

My oldest daughter, Caitlin has a bunny blanket that she's been attached to since she was about six months old, and at almost six years old now she still takes it everywhere.  It is her most prized possession, and she would be lost without it. Well, on our many outings to the mall, park, grocery store etc., she would sometimes drop it or throw it (along with her bottle and eventually her sippy cup), as most kids do, just to see me run after it as fast as I could to pick it up and get all the filthy germs off of it -  of course, that little game got old really fast.  So, my husband and I decided to find a product that would keep it attached to the stroller, high chair and shopping cart, but that product didn't seem to exist.  We did find ones that held sippy cups but it would only fit certain sizes, and they just didn't really work with her security blanket, and they didn't exactly hold her sippy cups real well. Since we could find what we were looking for, we created it!  (Necessity IS the mother of Invention!)

Our one-of-a-kind Clingy Cord will hold everything from sippy cups (all sizes), bottles (every kind), blankets, stuffed animals, dolls, action figures or any other "go-everywhere" items you can think of.  With our patented sliding-knot design, it is the most unique baby item out there and is a MUST-HAVE for any parent who is tired of picking up their child's belongings from the dirty floor or who has ever had to replace these items because they were unknowingly thrown from the stroller and lost.

Britany K Earls, Entrepreneur & Founder of Genesis Magazine

Brittany Kaytrina Earls is an Atlanta, GA native who now resides in New York, NY. As a recipient of the Hope Scholarship, she attended Georgia State University in August 2004, where she majored in Sociology and minored in English. She graduated three years later in 2007, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Brittany has had the mindset of an entrepreneur since she started her own home-based business at age 20, and later turned all of her focus towards her passion for writing into a business as she began freelance writing for The More Focus Group LLC, and later became the Associate Editor for Blest Magazine by age 21. At 22, she created Genesis Magazine LLC (www.mygenesismagazine.com). The thought of Genesis Magazine came from her love of thoughtful journalism. Never caring about celebrity gossip and bad news media, Brittany was always interested in people who start their own companies, create wealth, have a new talent, new book, or have broken barriers and achieved success. So, she created Genesis Magazine to cover the above interests and more. Brittany plans to return to the world of academia in the next three or four years to obtain her Master’s and Doctor’s degree in creative writing/editing.

About Genesis Magazine

Genesis is a magazine dedicated to the exposure of driven individuals who have broken barriers, eliminated obstacles, and achieved incredible career, personal, and entrepreneurial success. This publication is not for the dreamers but for the doers. These overachievers wake up every morning, put their boxing gloves on, grit their teeth, and sink their claws into life until they receive what they were born for. These elect individuals were not given anything, yet against all odds they are on their way to the top. Genesis Magazine is geared towards a vast, diverse audience of open-minded, multi-cultural, family oriented and well-rounded individuals who thirst for life and are purpose driven. Inside the pages of Genesis you will not find the flashiest bling, naked models, or celebrity gossip. Each issue is carefully designed to leave you entertained, well informed, educated, motivated, and inspired to dream and work harder. It is our belief that when the door in front of you doesn't open and neither does the door after that, find a window and burst it open; we need circumstances in our favor to achieve our goals and sometimes we must create those circumstances. The mission of Genesis Magazine is to encourage you to step out of the box, remove all limits, break out of your shell and be the first to achieve the unachievable. Welcome to Genesis, may you dream, thrive, and prosper. Be the first!

Jason O'Neill Founder of Pencil Bugs Plus and Author of Bitten By The Business Bug

Jason O'Neill

14-year-old Jason O'Neill didn’t plan on becoming an entrepreneur at the age of nine but when he had an opportunity to make a product for a craft fair in 2005, his idea took off and within months, he had started his business, Pencil Bugs Plus.

Jason continued to expand with new products and most recently became a published author with his first book, “Bitten by the Business Bug: Common Sense Tips for Business and Life from a Teen Entrepreneur.” Life does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it just means getting back to the basics, using common sense, and taking one step at a time regardless of age.

He has received a lot of national media attention for his business as well as several awards including the Young Entrepreneur of the Year at age eleven and being named on a Forbes Top 10 List of Role Models 18 & Under when he was just twelve years old.

Jason enjoys speaking at schools, organizations, and large events sharing his story, inspiring and encouraging people of all ages to try their ideas and give back to their communities.

Since he started his business, Jason has been donating part of his proceeds to children’s charities. He currently supports Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, California by buying toys, games, books and other gifts for the kids. For Christmas 2009, he held a fundraiser to donate teddy bears. His initial goal was to donate 250 bears. With donations from around the world and adding in his own money, Jason was able to raise over $5000 which enabled him to buy 1800 teddy bears for the hospital. He has already started on his Christmas 2010 fundraiser and hopes to make it even bigger. His charitable philosophy? “Do something because even the smallest effort can make a difference in someone else’s life.”

Laura Deutsch & Heather Ouida Co-Owners of Babybites.com and Kiddydbites.com

Laura Deutsch

Laura Deutsch is the founder and creator of babybites.  Laura experienced the transition from being a working woman to stay-at-home mom challenging, lonely, and stressful.  She understood the importance of spending time with other new moms but found it difficult to find new mom friends. Laura’s vision was to create a venue where new moms could easily meet, socialize, and feel a sense of community with other new moms.

Laura held her first babybites luncheon in February 2006 on the Upper East Side and the response from the community was overwhelming!  Emails poured in from moms all over NYC asking Laura to bring babybites to their part of town.  She responded by starting babybites luncheons on the Upper West Side and in Murray Hill.  In response to more requests Laura enhanced the babybites program to include events for expectant moms, sample classes around town, parenting seminars, support groups, toddler activities, and special events for the whole family.

Fast forward several years and babybites has become a household name in the New York area mommy world.  babybites is the place for moms and moms-to-be to network, socialize, learn, share, play, and be part of a supportive community.

Come share a babybites experience and you too will meet other moms and form friendships that will last a lifetime!

Heather Ouida

Heather Ouida always thought that motherhood would get a whole lot easier once her two boys entered school.  She quickly realized that although she left the sleepless nights and toddler tantrums behind, a whole new set of age-specific challenges arose.  As she always did when she had parenting questions, Heather turned to Laura Deutsch, founder of babybites.

Together Laura and Heather co-founded kiddybites. They decided to use babybites’ already successful format and tailor it to the needs of parents with children aged 4+. Kiddybites’ mission is to provide advice and education through seminars and events, to help parents better support, understand and interact with their children.

Heather used her experience—both as a mom as well as a learning specialist with over 15 years of experience in London and at Dalton in Manhattan—to establish a lecture series that fosters the physical, emotional and intellectual development of children, facilitated by top child and parenting professionals.

Heather lives on the Upper East Side with her husband Jordan and their two sons. Here are some “fun-facts” that Heather posted about herself in one of her blog posts:

“In addition to all the standard, run-of-the-mill facts you can read about me on my bio, here are a few juicier tidbits: (1) nothing makes me laugh harder than hearing my sons laugh; (2) I eat one jar of Nutella a week (straight up); (3) I have been addicted to yoga for years and still can’t touch my toes; (4) when I met my husband he had a Mohawk; (5), I was once escorted at gunpoint from the Giza Pyramids in Egypt for mistakenly entering a restricted zone (my-bad); (6) Chuck Bass (enough said); and, (7) I am crazy-passionate about moms supporting each other without passing judgment.  Please see my earlierblog post, Non-Judgment day in the Village. http://www.babybites.com/09/16/non-judgment-day-in-the-village/ "

Betty-Ann Heggie Business Owner & Professional Speaker Richie Byrne Commedian & Charity Fundraiser

About Betty-Ann

Betty-Ann Heggie has reinvented herself more times than Madonna - from beauty queen to beer rep to belly dancer to corporate executive, and now to The Stilletto Chick, a slimmed-down globe-trotter and speaker who helps women connect to their flow of Effortless Energy. A member of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women Hall of Fame, Betty-Ann is all too familiar with the issues women face balancing careers and motherhood. She is also well aware of the struggles that women are met with on a daily basis, having personally gained and lost over 100 pounds - twice. As a result, Betty-Ann now devotes her time to helping women leverage their masculine and feminine energy to address issues such as weight, work, and wealth.

Betty-Ann grew up working in a family business and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan. She was on her way to a career in teaching when she became the first female beer rep in Saskatchewan. Her journey through the business world ultimately landed her in agribusiness, where she climbed the corporate ladder to become a senior vice president at PotashCorp. She has the distinction of being named Canada's Top Investor Relations Officer by both her clients and her peers, and was also awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. More recently she won the Alumni Mentorship Award from the University of Saskatchewan, and her efforts on behalf of women were recognized by the "Women Helping Women" award at the 2009 Stevie Awards for Women in New York.

After 26 years in the corporate world, Betty-Ann heard a calling to share her quest for female empowerment. She shows her audiences the importance of having enough feminine energy to balance the masculine energy prevalent in the system. Just as a corporation benefits from the infusion of feminine energy women bring to the table, so too will individuals benefit from developing their opposite energy. By following her Six Stilletto Steps, you can balance the energy of the genders and access the Effortless Energy of the universe.

Today, Betty-Ann spreads her message through her keynote speeches and workshops across North America, and you can schedule her to speak at your next event. She has also used her retirement to embrace her love of travel, where her experiences in many countries have underlined her beliefs about the importance of good Gender Physics. You can follow her insights at her blog, Reflections On Gender Physics: Leveraging Masculine and Feminine Energy. And be sure to check out her eBook, Love the Woman in the Mirror: Six Stilletto Steps to Making Peace with Weight, available now!

Richie Byrne

One of the most requested comedians working today, Richie’s talents are a unique mix. Combine the sharpness of the New York observationalist with the charm of an old-school storyteller--add a dominating stage presence with one of the highest laugh-per-minute counts in the business and you have only scratched the surface of this one-of-a-kind performer.

A classic complainer, Richie Byrne is someone we all can relate to. His stories about his mother, his brothers, his cousin’s wedding, his grandmother…make you swear he must have been at your last family affair. He can then change gears and pontificate on the world we live in (politics, popular music, kids, sports) that make you believe he must know what you are thinking! But, his most hard-hitting material is usually reserved for Richie himself. His stories about being on the set of shows like “Sex & the City” and “The Sopranos”… or going to the doctor…or even just trying to drive home from the show will have you roaring with laughter.

Richie is now the official warm- up comedian for FOX’s, “Dr. Oz Show.”

He’s proud to be associated with such a successful show. Richie has also incorporated his experiences from the show into his comedy routine.

His comedy credits include such well-known clubs as Dangerfield’s and Carolines in Manhattan as well as many clubs around the country, including Hilarities in Cleveland and The Ice House in Pasadena. Richie has had comedy appearances on Comedy Central, VH1, “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” & “The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet” and most recently, TruTv’s “World’s Dumbest…”

Not only a popular comedian, Richie is also an accomplished actor & singer, with a long resume of theatrical credits (music and legit) as well as television. Besides his stints on HBO’s “Sex” & “Sopranos” he has also been on “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” & “Conviction” on NBC. He can also be seen in the feature film “Goodbye Baby”. Written & directed by Dan Schecter, it is a film about a young girl who enters the world of stand-up. Besides performing material in the movie and playing a part, Richie was also a consultant on the set and helped to write original material for the lead character.

Richie is also very proud to be a main performer for the “Comedy Cures” organization. Founded by Saranne Rothberg, “Comedy Cures” is a non-profit organization that uses comedy as a therapeutic tool for people living with illness, depression, trauma and disabilities. “Comedy Cures” recently organized a show at the United Nations. Richie was the opening act. The UN officials stated that comedy had never been done there before, so Richie Byrne is proud to say that he is the first comedian ever to perform at the UN! Richie has also been a major part of Comedy Cures “Laugh Talk Radio.”

But, Richie’s biggest accomplishment in show business is “The Richie Byrne Show”. Richie’s talent for acting, singing and comedy made it a natural step that he would star in his own ‘variety show’ series and “The Richie Byrne Show” is it!

Written by some of the top comics in NY and performed by some of the most talented actors, singers and musicians, “The Richie Byrne Show” is an “off the wall” throwback to the old days of “Variety”. Based on such great programs like “The Jackie Gleason Show” and “Your Show of Shows” , the ensemble cast and “big name” guest stars from all walks of entertainment take you on a 90 minute, whirlwind ride of sketches, songs and stand-up comedy in a seamless fashion, with Richie Byrne as the hilarious thread that holds all the pieces together.

Richie Byrne is a multi-talented, uniquely funny comedian and performer that you don’t dare miss!!! For more information, contact Linda Rohe, Coastal Entertainment Productions

Sari Crevin Founder of BooginHead

In 2005, working mother Sari Crevin created the very first prototype of SippiGrip in San Ramon California. Sari was becoming frustrated when her 1-year-old son, Jake, would throw his sippy cup to the floor from his high chair, stroller and car seat. Sari was constantly picking up the cups that were either getting dirty or getting lost. “Necessity really was the mother of invention and I could not find any product, in stores or on-line, that met my needs,” Sari remembers.  Hence, the SippiGrip was born.

After an evolution of prototypes, research and testing of the SippiGrip, Sari formed BooginHead LLC. in September 2007 and dedicated herself to launching the new and useful product for parents - and for parents everywhere she has helped end the cup throwing game!

BooginHead LLC. is currently located in Bellevue, Washington where the sister product, PaciGrip was created in 2008.  BooginHead’s PaciGrip is a universal pacifier holder in matching SippiGrip colors. Although not a new concept, Sari Crevin’s product is fashionable, universally compatible with all pacifier brands and is the most affordable product available.  PaciGrip is BooginHead’s best selling item.

The third product, Splat Mat, a unique 48” round reusable mat in three fashion forward colors guaranteed to catch every spill, was introduced last year at The ABC Show.

BooginHead continues to move forward in creating several other solutions based products that are geared towards simply making parents’ lives easier!  Crevin says that “the basis for all the products I create need to fit a certain criteria: is it solving a problem, is it fashionable and does it break the bank?  In this economy it is a need vs. a want so creating functional products that meet a need and look more expensive than they are is a great niche.”

Crevin’s products have won multiple awards including 2 iParenting Media Awards, Creative Child Magazine’s Seal of Excellence Award and was chosen to participate in Target’s “2008 Parent Invented Products Program.”  SippiGrip and PaciGrip are sold in retailers nationwide, online and internationally, including Target and Babies “R” Us.

Crevin graduated from the University of Arizona where she majored in Human Resource Management with a degree from the School of Business.  She is also a certified Life Coach and focuses on career coaching.  She is one of the few people whose career derived from her major, “by day” she a Human Resources Manager in the X-Box Division at Microsoft.  She lives in Bellevue with her husband and their two young sons.

MISHAVONNA is a 19-year-old Country Singer/Songwriter raised in both Texas and Southern California. This dual upbringing has strongly influenced her style, defining it as ‘California Country…Country Music with an Edge!’ “Music has always been my passion and the easiest way for me to communicate my feelings to others,” Mishavonna says, while explaining that she keeps her music honest and lyrics direct. Since age 13, Mishavonna has been singing professionally and training vocally since she was 8 years old. In June of 2007 she graduated from high school two years early to pursue her career as a Country singer. After the success of her 1st EP, “From The Edge Of The World,” she has released her 2nd EP, “Country, Soul & Rock N Roll,” generating a positive consensus from both the press and her fans. Each product was released independently and is currently available for purchase through any online music store. Mishavonna is putting the finishing touches on her first full-length album and her debut release is set for Tuesday, August 31st, featuring her current single “Rollercoaster.” In July 2007, Mishavonna auditioned in San Diego for American Idol Season 7 and earned a “Golden Ticket” to Hollywood. Over 12,000 contestants participated in the San Diego audition, where she was 1 of 31 chosen. Only 164 contestants of over 100,000 nationwide made it to ‘Hollywood Week,’ which was quite an accomplishment for a 17-year-old! Mishavonna did not make it to the semi-finals that year, but the experience helped her gain notoriety and she was repeatedly featured on mainstream country radio including: Cliff and Company on 97.3, 92.1 K-SON in San Diego, “Scott Alexander’s 15 Minutes of Fame” on 100.7 K-HAY in Ventura, Backroads Country on 107.9 The Duke in Tennessee and many others. On her 18th birthday, July 25th, 2008, Mishavonna decided to give American Idol another try and auditioned in Phoenix, Arizona, where she was once again given a “Golden Ticket” to Hollywood. This time her practice and perseverance paid off and she made it through Hollywood Week to become one of the “Top 36” semifinalists. On February 25th Mishavonna performed Train’s “Drops of Jupiter” to a national television audience of well over thirty million viewers. Her performance generated a buzz so strong that Train’s original version of the song re-appeared on iTunes’s top 100 pop downloads immediately following Mishavonna’s performance, reaching as high as number 15. These days Mishavonna, accompanied by a young and energetic band, is opening for major acts, performing at fairs, clubs, rodeos, malls and charity events. Her set list includes a various array of originals, from upbeat stadium anthems like ‘Country Thing’ and ‘Stand Back’ to her title track on her 1st EP ‘Edge Of The World,’ featuring a guest appearance by her brother, Christian rapper CPR. Her vocal range is unmatched and her live performance will keep you on your toes like her fun and fierce single “Rollercoaster” and floor you with her timeless ballads like ‘Live In Sin’ and ‘Tear Myself Apart.’ Mishavonna has also been acting professionally since she was 6 in Film, Television and Theatre and has trained with top acting coaches in L.A. She has been cast in numerous films, and has worked side by side with Kelsey Grammer on “Frasier,” with Nathan Lane on the TV show “Charlie Lawrence”, and in the Nickelodeon show, “Unfabulous.” She played Rhoda in the “Bad Seed”, Maria in “West Side Story” and Margot Frank in “The Diary of Ann Frank” at various theatres throughout Los Angeles. Mishavonna keeps grounded by remaining very active in her church and sings in her church choir. She is a strong believer in helping children develop their creative talents and volunteers at The Boys and Girls Club Musical Mentors Program, giving guitar lessons to children. A realist and well beyond her years, 19-year-old Mishavonna knows that the real work starts here. Even though she has already reached many milestones in her young career, she continuously writes, works and performs to reach many more to come. Mishavonna’s debut album signifies that her intentions are honest and her talent concrete. After her first visit to Nashville in March 2010, CMT’s Kelley Cook wrote, “And while Mishavonna is not the typical country music singer, she puts her own twist on country music and just might be the "spice" to Taylor Swift’s ‘sweet.’”

Michael Anthony - Business Owner of Multi-Million Dollar Contracting Company

Michael Anthony is the owner of a Contracting company that specializes in exterior restoration of high rise buildings, and interior renovations of rental units.  Michael’s company has grown to a 20 million dollar company, within the last five years.  He holds a B.S. in Accounting and worked as an accountant for a short period before launching a career in the real estate/construction industry in 1995.

After switching careers, Michael started renovating 1 and two family homes.  His company would purchase, renovate and sell.  In the 1997 when he opened his contracting company, there was an upswing in the real estate market and he took full advantage of it.

In 2001 he started building new construction projects.  He would purchase a site and act as the developer and the builder.  After doing this for 4 years, he then expanded by taking on jobs from other clients.

In 2005 he started to work as a sub-contractor in masonry, restoration industry.  Observing  that the development markets were going to recede, he moved all of his company efforts to 90% for hire work, and 10 % in house development. This move, although pre-mature at the time, is the reason he survived this downturn in the construction and housing industry.

His company has found this specialty niche and no longer works as a sub contractor; he made the move to be a prime Contractor after 2 years.

The company employed over 280 employees last year during the peak season.  This season he will employ close to 200 employees or even more depending on the bidding process and its ebbs and flows.

His clients range from publicly traded Real estate investment trust, to private owners, condo and co-ops.  The company has been involved with Landmarked restorations and Landmarks New Development, and has extensive knowledge and skill in balcony restoration.  Michael's company is also involved in apartment renovation programs that speeds up the turnover of rental units, in 5-8 days.  This quick turn around time has helped his clients increase rents and not lose valuable rental days.

Dara Blaker Musician Turned Business Owner

Dara Blaker grew up in Long Island, New York.  She has been playing music as far back as she can remember.  As a child, she would sit for hours at her chord organ, figuring out melodies to songs she knew, and those she sang in school.  Ironically, piano was not the instrument on which she started her formal studies.  It was the flute.

Dara traveled a lot with her parents.  Once while in Paris, her father suggested they go to an after hours club to hear some jazz.  It was this very night in the club that Dara decided that she wanted to go into music as a career.

In 1989, Dara got her Bachelor's of Music from NYU, where she graduated with honors.  She did not major in piano, or even in performance.  She majored in music business and technology with a concentration in audio engineering. It was at NYU where her formal study of piano began, but it didn't end there.

She and her husband Edward, who is also a musician, met while she was in college.  They were in a band together and lived in New York City while pursuing a career in music.  From 80's to Adult Contemporary to Rock to Classical music, they have been writing and recording music together ever since; www.vampangel1111.com.  Edward is also the web designer and webmaster for all of her websites.

Years later, after a few career changes, Dara found herself teaching music privately for a small company in Long Island.  Over a 10-year period, she helped develop a curriculum for students.   She also developed a method of how to train others to teach and grew the company from 3 teachers and 50 students to 15 teachers and 400 students.

In January of 2005, to live closer to family, Dara relocated to South Florida with her husband and their daughter, Olivia.  With her skills as a music educator as well as an administrator, she successfully started her own company, Colour Me Music, www.colourmemusic.com.  She and her caring staff teach piano, violin, voice, flute and guitar, as well as preschool music classes.

With her students in mind, Dara has also self published a collection of intermediate piano pieces entitled An Introduction to the Piano Works of Turetsky (Turetsky is Dara's maiden name, which she uses in the musical world).

Inspiration from Olivia and years of teaching music in preschool, led Dara to create a product called Helpful Hallie's Mighty Miracle Mist, www.mightymiraclemist.com.  Mighty Miracle Mist is a 4 pack of water-based sprays that makes it fun for kids to behave.  It has been well received by children, parents, grandparents and teachers throughout the US and Canada.  It was in marketing this product that Dara got involved in groups that support Mom-entrepreneurs, and ultimately to her radio show.

If you don't find Dara teaching or playing piano, you can find her with her family outdoors enjoying the fabulous South Florida weather and beaches

Rose Jannuzzi of Jannuzzi Clothing Ltd.

My dream started at a young age when I used to sketch dresses and create “inspiration walls” with pages that I tore from magazines (I’m pretty sure my dad is still trying to putty all the holes I made in my bedroom walls). After graduating from High School, I applied for a part-time sales job at May Company. During my interview, the HR Director felt that I would be a good fit for a position in the Buying Office, thus launching my career in the Fashion Industry. A few years later, I was recruited by Rampage Clothing which at the time was one of the hottest companies in junior fashions. The entrepreneurial spirit that permeated the company allowed me to play multiple roles and gain a lot of experience in a very short time. During my tenure I held positions in Sales, Visual Merchandising, Buying & Merchandise Planning. Five years later, I accepted an offer from Wet Seal to help launch a new store concept. The idea of developing a business from the ground up was very appealing and I jumped in with both feet. Within six months our team rolled out a 35 Arden B. locations, the foundation of which is still present in the 95 stores they operate today. In late-1999, Guess, Inc. was looking to grow their Retail Division and asked me to help develop their Planning & Allocation team. After one month I thought I made a huge mistake. Their retail stores’ inventory problems were much worse than I imagined but, what the heck, I was up for a challenge. Over the next few years, my team and I were able to get inventory positions under control and bring exceptional profitability to the division. While I was proud of my accomplishments, it occurred to me one day that my years of 55-65 hour work weeks had resulted in seven-figure bonuses for a handful of executives…and I was tired of making other people rich! In May of 2005, I decided to pursue my lifelong dream of starting my own company, and Jannuzzi was born. Our distinctive collection is currently available in over 400 stores nationwide.

Kathleen King, Founder & Baker of Tate's Bake Shop

Kathleen King

Founder and Baker- Tate’s Bake Shop

When the magazine Every Day with Rachael Ray set out to find the country’s best chocolate chip cookie, they sampled almost 50 different versions…and “…the best tasting chocolate chip cookie” came from Tate’s Bake Shop in Southampton, New York.

Kathleen King has been baking professionally since she was eleven. Born and raised on North Sea Farms in Southampton, she learned to early that if she wanted something, she would have to work for it.

By the time King was in high school, she was baking 12-hours a day, and perfecting her thin, crisp, buttery and caramel tasting chocolate chip cookies. She was so successful; her baking put her through college: SUNY College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill, New York.

When King was 20, she opened her first bakery and within one year she had made a name for herself in the fashionable communities on the south fork of Long Island.

Twenty eight years later. King is still baking. Her chocolate chip cookies continue to be a favorite, and she has added scores of other recipes, many of which have been published in her second book: Tate’s Bake Shop Cookbook (St Martin Press: 2005, $24.95) and subsequently reprinted several times.

Today, Tate’s Bake Shop in Southampton (90 miles east of New York City) is as The New York Times recently noted “…a destination- worth putting miles on the odometer.”

Tate’s Bake Shop is named after King’s father who still operates the North Sea Farm where she was raised. Her cookies, muffins, and cakes are sold throughout the United States as well as by mail order: www.tatesbakshop.com.  Each month Kathleen King shares a new recipe on her website with friends and fans. These days when you tell someone that you are going to the Hamptons for the weekend, they are almost certain to ask, “Bring me back something from Tate’s”.

No matter what it is, as long as it’s from Tate’s, you can be sure it’s made fresh, with no artificial ingredients, and has been tested and tasted by Kathleen King herself.

Josephine's Paying it Forward Guest for December 9, 2009 is Lynne Lambert, Creator of the NYC Subway Line

Lynne Lambert, creator of the NYC Subway Line brand of apparel and accessories, came to NYC to further her dream of being an actor.  As she settled in Brooklyn, that meant riding the subways everyday to auditions in Manhattan.   Eventually she achieved some success, especially in voice-overs and radio commercials.  She was the announcer for Pound Puppies, Amstel Light Beer, Lysol, the voice inside a talking doll, and performed all of the women’s voices in Grand Theft Auto II!

But this success was interrupted by inspiration while waiting for a subway train!  Why hadn’t anyone ever made those quintessential NYC subway signs and symbols into clothing?  She couldn’t shake the idea, and the NYC Subway Line was born!  See http://www.nycsubwayline.com

Since then, Lynne has created 2 more unique lines:  Coney Island Line- which features the famous sideshow performers; and London LineZ – accessories decorated with a map of Central London.  Visit them at http://www.ConeyIslandLine.com and http://www.LondonLineZ.com
