Lit Up! Guest Andrea Boeshaar Overcome Fear of Failure

What do you do when you fail? Lit Up! guest, Andrea Boeshaar, shares a deep conversation with host, Angela Breidenbach, about various ways to help people overcome the fear of failure. Tips for Beta Readers are especially helpful so be sure to listen to the entire episode.

Some tips to overcome fear of failure (atyciphobia):

  • Create a system to compare notes so one person's opinion doesn't hold too much weight.
  • Make a list of questions for beta readers so they focus on what you need rather than random opinion.
  • Understand the reader/critiquer's background: are they super young or from a very different background than your fictional characters, do they read your genre or are they familiar with your form of artisitic expression...
  • Weight returned comments against the others: Do any agree? Are there odd-duck comments?
  • Know that you're not the only one that's ever felt afraid, nervous, or whatever. Find others and talk about it.
  • Turn off those negative tapes in your head that keep repeating discouragement.
