Military Mom Talk Radio welcomes author Julie Schrock, author Paul Kendall, and Jerry Clark from Evacus Technologies, June 3

Military Mom Talk Radio welcomes author of Missing Max Julie Schrock, Paul Kendall, author of Walking the Tiger's Path: A Soldier's Spiritual Journiey in Iraq, and Jerry Clark from Evacus Technologies.

Julie Schrock has experience and training in a variety of fields, none of which are traditional qualifications for writing a book. What qualifies her to write Missing Max: Finding Hope After My Marine Son's Death are her experiences as a mother of a Marine son deployed to and killed in Afghanistan. On that topic she is a subject matter expert.

Missing Max is a compelling story of one mother's journey as she recalls the extraordinary events surrounding the death of her Marine son, Corporal Max W. Donahue, who was killed in Afghanistan in August, 2010. You will share her despair, fears, tears and finally, her hope as she moves through the days and months following word of Max's injury, and then his death.

Missing Max is a must-read for anyone who has lost a loved one. It encourages the reader to live a life that is focused on making their lost loved-one proud. She writes of moving through the grieving process and, through her faith and the love of family and friends, begins the healing process and going forward with her life.

Julie's hope in writing Max's story is that it will provide strength, hope, courage and faith to others. And she hopes that Max, and all fallen soldiers, will never be forgotten.

Walking the Tiger's Path: A Soldier's Spiritual Journey in Iraq puts you on the ground with National Guardsman Paul M. Kendel as he faces roadside bombs, ambush, and potential suicide bombers while patrolling the "Triangle of Death" outside Baghdad in 2005. Already familiar with the Middle East through travel and study, he's acutely aware of the local people and culture around him-in a way that many American soldiers are not. As his friends start dying and the other soldiers grow embittered toward the Iraqis, he struggles to maintain his humanity and sense of compassion with his finger on the trigger.

He makes a connection with an instructor, Margot Neuman, Executive Director of the Ratna Peace Initiative, and they begin a correspondence that provides him with advice and spiritual teachings, particularly those of Sakyong Mipham (declared one of Time magazines most influential people), and the well-known Buddhist teacher Pema Chodron. When he returns to America, he finds that his "ordinary" life is not immune to death and suffering either, affirming the principles he's been learning and the need for compassion.

Walking the Tiger's Path combines a compelling, quick-reading, gritty military narrative with a voyage of spiritual discovery centered on principles of eastern religion.  There are few, if any, stories like it in modern Buddhist literature. At the same time, it fits into the realm of classic war memoir, replete with the details of battle and the modern soldier's life, told in a voice by turns humane, humorous, sarcastic, and thoughtful.
