Susan Elizabeth Lee is a co-founder of the Sock It To Em Sock Campaign which is a 501C3 Public Charity whose mission is to provide new socks for men, women and children who are experiencing homelessness and/or are in need. Sock It To Em began in 2012 and to date has collected 859,000 pairs of socks that have been distributed in 41 states. Sue grew up on a farm east of Cleveland Ohio, went to Kent State University where she obtained a BS in Elementary Education. She has two sons: Tony who is married and lives with his family in Australia, and Ian who lives in the mountains outside of Denver.
Sue has always had a passion for life and jumped enthusiastically into being involved in various justice and peace activities nationally and internationally through the 60’s and 90’s. Following that phase, she moved towards becoming a student of emotional intelligence wanting to help people to be able to handle life instead of life handling them. That led her to teaching Life Management Skills at Lockheed Martin’s Evening Institute for 6 years, presenting at various corporations and creating a program for preschoolers called I Believe in Me. In 2011, the idea to gather new socks for those in need came to her and she invited her friend Phillis Shimamoto to join her on this endeavor. It evolved in 2012 into forming the Sock It To Em Sock Campaign which has been a vanguard in providing new socks to those in need. During COVID, Sue decided she needed to develop a hobby to keep her sane and active so she taught herself to paint which has blossomed into her selling six pieces of art and claiming the rights of being an artist.
She offers people the small idea of making a difference in the lives of those they don’t know. That can begin with carrying a package of new socks on the passenger seat of their car and when they come to someone in need who is standing on the corner, to hand them a pair of socks. That pair of socks just might help save their life.

“I have a love for emotional intelligence... You and I are good friends and we had a talk about how do we go beyond our vision. For me, it’s always been expansion thinking... Expansion thinking is thinking what if, what else, why not?” — Sue Lee
