Judy Brizendine and Molly

Judy Brizendine—author, blogger, and speaker—is a woman with a passionate mission that developed as a result of a tragic loss. The statement, “Out of your deepest pain comes your greatest gift,” describes her experience.

In 1998, Judy’s husband of twenty-nine years died suddenly on a mountain bike ride, and her grief journey changed her life, perspective, and career.

Because she was painfully unprepared to face grief—just as most of us are—she is committed to easing your struggle to understand and deal with grief. Her goal is to meet you wherever you are, and connect with you in such a way that you will know that you can make it through this experience and discover a new sense of hope and direction.

Her STUNNED by Grief books gently guide you through the chaos and confusion of grief in a realistic, revealing, personal, and practical way. Readers facing grief and loss have discovered a source of sanity, solutions, validation, and life-changing support in STUNNED by Grief.

Judy was blessed to remarry several years ago, and she currently lives in southern California with her husband, Jon Kreider, and two very pampered (or probably spoiled) cats, Max and Molly—affectionately referred to as “Bubba” and “the Princess.” The whole crew hopes to relocate in a few years to a small town along the South Carolina coast—midway between family in Kentucky, Florida, and Virginia.

A Little Personal History

Judy was born and raised in western Kentucky, the first of three children (and the only daughter) in her family. She will always think of Kentucky as “home,” even though she moved away in 1973 when her husband entered the Marine Corps.

As the wife of a career military officer, Judy lived on the East Coast, the West Coast, the Gulf Coast, and places in between, but she is a Southerner at heart. An especially interesting and adventurous tour of duty was a year in Okinawa, Japan—which included living in a Japanese apartment building off-base! She loves to go back home and spend time with family and long-time friends. And the hint of an accent that never quite disappears is a telltale link to those Southern roots.

Reading books, collecting books, researching, and writing have been lifelong pursuits related to both personal and professional roles. When thoughts turn to a source for information, for pure pleasure, or for inspiration—the first thing that occurs to her is to look for a book. If only there were enough bookshelves in the house for every book to have a home!

Learning is (and always has been) key. In her late thirties she went back to school, earned another degree, and completely changed career paths—from marketing to interior design. Judy passionately pursued residential and then commercial design for nearly seventeen years until she made a major decision to totally shift course again.

In 2006, she focused her attention on writing, along with a desire and commitment to use her life experiences to make a real, personal difference in the lives of people who face similar challenges.

Mission: to educate, encourage, inspire, and motivate anyone facing grief and loss to step into the process that empowers them to move from pain to living expectantly again.
