As women, it is easy to get caught up in our to-do lists. I (Patty) have a very "git-r-done", result-driven temperament; I like to know that my day was worth getting up for. The problem with this personality is how are you measuring results? What is your measuring stick?
When we get caught up in our "Martha World", our relationships, usually our most significant ones, can suffer. So perhaps we could all take a little "Mary-check" and see where we are in this Martha world.
Our guest this week (January 30, 2014), Joanna Weaver, is the best-selling author of Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, Having a Mary Spirit, Lazarus Awakening, and the award-winning gift book, With This Ring. Her articles have appeared in such publications as Focus on the Family, In Touch, Guideposts, and HomeLife.

Not too long ago, Lisa and I were working when a couple of very good friends stopped by, surprising us with lunch. Rather than being grateful, I was a bit overt in my agitation, maybe even borderline rude, because this interruption was going to put us back a few hours on our deadline. Now, I’m not promoting a life without boundaries, but in hind-sight, there was plenty of time left for our project. I could and should have welcomed the fun of friendship and spirit of spontaneity, not to mention the yummy food! I should have been eager to eat, drink, and be Mary!
