The Veterans Preservation Corps is a newly-formed non-profit entity whose mission is to train and educate veterans of America’s Armed Forces in the field of Historic Preservation crafts. The organization’s long-term goal is to train veterans in the various aspects of Historic Preservation crafts, and eventually support these vets in the preservation of historic structures at VA centers around the country.
The Veterans Preservation Corps is involved in a training program that is taking place at the Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles. Executive Director Jessica Maria Alicea-Covarrubias has continually been involved in the museum and art communities. For her, working at Heritage Square brings two of her favorite subjects, history and architecture, together in a common purpose: to use architecture and object based learning to educate the public of local and national history. The partnership of Heritage Square Museum and the Veterans’ Preservation Corps has been a unique and rewarding endeavor.
