This week's show highlights:
- Creating your own music
- Adoption adventure
Just as Mozart and Bach did their entire life, Philip Sheppard (maestro cellist & renowned music composer) has gamified music so that anyone (from the 6-year-old novice to a budding musician) can compose, play and share their own piece using the new digital music game Compose Yourself (from ThinkFun).
Compose Yourself is a set of musical "building bricks" that encourages kids to "play with" music just like they would with a construction kit. The digital music game features a deck of transparent cards, each representing a measure of music that can be viewed in four possible orientations. First, flip, rotate and arrange cards to build an interesting pattern. Then, enter card codes onto an exclusive website to hear the composition played back instantly. You can easily share a link to your composition via social media or email; or download and print your own sheet music.
Can you imagine going from a family of 4 to a family of 12? That's exactly what happened to Mike & Hayley Jones, who never imagined that when they set out to adopt a child from Sierra Leone, this venture would lead to the "Jones Dozen!" They write about their adventure in their book, At Any Cost: Overcoming Every Obstacle To Bring Our Children Home.
So pull up a chair, shake up a cocktail, and kick up your heels while you tune in to the refreshingly real talk about what it takes to be a functional - and fun - parent in today's wild world of raising kids.
