This week's show highlights:
- Don't we all have special needs?
- What teenagers wish their parents knew
Jennifer Mazella has been navigating the special education system for over 10 years. What began as a journey to radically change her own child's special education experience grew into a desire to help other families navigate the system more effectively. Jennifer holds a Bachelor Degree in Behavioral Science and Master Degrees in both Counseling and Social Work. She is also the author of 2 books, This is not what I signed up for: One Mom's reluctant journey through parenting a special needs child and The Special Education Parent University Coaches Playbook. She is currently collaborating on a 3 book with her son Alexander called Raising An Advocate which will be released this fall. Her ultimate goal is to change the future for special need children and their families. When not coaching, advocating and educating her clients, she enjoys spending time with her husband, 3 children, 2 cats and 2 dogs in what she affectionately refers to as The Mazella Madhouse.
Tyler Durman, the author of Counterintuitive: What 4 Million Teenagers Wish We Knew, has spoken at more than 2,800 schools, conferences, and events and to more than 4,000,000 teenagers over the past 20+ years. He's sought after by schools and conferences who want to help students live better stories by caring for each other, making better choices, and becoming positive leaders. Tyler is a former high school teacher and each year his live presentations reach more than 200,000 students, parents and teachers throughout the U.S. and Canada. He's best known for his ability to offer wisdom through laughter and storytelling, and is booked annually for school assemblies, parenting conferences, staff development, district-wide teacher conferences, student leadership, corporate events and keynotes. Tyler lives in Southern California, with his wife Kristen and their blended family, and even though they drive an old VW Bus, they are not hippies or nudists.
So pull up a chair, shake up a cocktail, and kick up your heels while you tune in to the refreshingly real talk about what it takes to be a functional - and fun - parent in today's wild world of raising kids.
